Farmington Confirms High Ranking With Utah State Win, Other Top 30 Teams Prepping For State Championships By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The first big wave of state meets hit this week with Wednesday's Utah state championships, and that will be followed by more than a dozen more by Saturday — including high-profile state meets with multiple top-30 boys cross country teams in Colorado and Indiana. Farmington proved to be deeper than American Fork and holds at No. 5 thanks to a rock-solid performance 1-5. The Phoenix scored 49 points and American Fork, led by a resurgent Nate Jaster, was next with 68. Riverton took third in the 6A standings and moved into the rankings at No. 25. The team in front of Farmington, No. 4 Jesuit of Portland, also had a productive day Wednesday and put six runners between 14:58 and 15:38 at the Metro League district meet in Beaverton. Columbus North IN leapt back up into the top 10 with a strong showing at the Brown County Semi-State meet, climbing back to No. 6. The Bulldogs will face a battle on Saturday in Terre Haute when they go against Brebeuf Jesuit, making its debut in the top 30 at No. 17, plus No. 26 Center Grove and Carmel, one of the next best teams beyond this week's list. Great Oak CA climbed three spots and leap-frogged Loyola of Los Angeles after its victory in the Division 1-2 team sweepstakes at the 73rd Mt. SAC Invitational last weekend in Walnut, Calif. With Millard West of Nebraska losing at its state meet, Wayzata MN has established a new case to return to the top of the Heartland regional rankings. The top team in Minnesota has been a slow-burn work in progress since early September, but seems to be taking off. The Spartans put five runners, led by Hamza Mohamed, in the top 12 of the Section 6AA meet. Sioux City North of Iowa has a strong trio up front and just missed this week's list as it heads into its biggest meet of the season — the Iowa state championships. At the top of the list, Newbury Park is preparing for historic runs at the California state title as well as the RunningLane national meet Dec. 4 in Alabama. In Colorado, No. 2 Cheyenne Mountain and No. 3 Niwot will go head to head in the Class 4A championship race Saturday at Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. (Niwot beat Cheyenne Mountain in 2020 as the two schools went 1-2). In the 5A meet, No. 10 Valor Christian and No. 16 Mountain Vista will compete for the top of the awards stand. Top 30 More news
