Kentucky Standout Runs 1:47.04 Against College Runners At Joe Walker Invitational By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor John Nepolitan photo from New Balance Nationals Indoor Cade Flatt of Marshall County High in Benton, Ky. moved to No. 3 on the all-time list in the high school boys 800 meters Saturday, finishing just behind the NCAA Indoor mile champion at the Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss. Flatt, who ran unattached in a college field, got a chance to run on his future home track. He committed to Ole Miss last fall. RESULTS Ole Miss junior Mario Garcia Romo won the 800 meters in 1:46.90, which is the fourth-fastest time in the NCAA so far this season. Flatt, who ran the third-fastest 800 indoors when he won the New Balance Nationals Indoor title last month at The Armory in New York (1:48.86), is off to a flying start to his outdoor season. His time of 1:47.04 trails only Michael Glanville of Bell Gardens CA, who ran 1:46.45 in 1996, and George Kersh of Pearl MS, who clocked 1:46.58 in 1987. Flatt's time Saturday would rank fifth on the current NCAA list. Flatt also ran 47.07 for 400 meters last week to win at the Mobile Challenge of Champions in Alabama. More news
