Robert Johnson's Contract Will Not Be Renewed; National Search Under Way

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Near the end of the first day of competition at the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships, the University of Oregon sent out a release at 8 p.m. Pacific that confirmed rumors that have been swirling for weeks.

Robert Johnson's tenure as the University of Oregon Director of Track and Field and Cross Country will end after 10 years and his contract, set to expire June 30, will not be renewed.

Johnson spent seven years at Oregon as an assistant under Vin Lananna before being elevated to the head coaching job in 2012. Under Johnson's direction the Ducks won 14 NCAA team championships, but just one since 2017.

The Oregon men won their 15th consecutive Pac-12 Championship title this spring, but at the NCAA Championships two weeks ago finished in a tie for 25th with 11 points. The Oregon women were 11th with 20 points.
