By Mary Albl of DyeStat

A new-look Severna Park left little doubt they are still the powerhouse program everyone in Maryland has come to know. On Saturday, Nov. 12, the boys team claimed its fifth-straight state title at Hereford High in Parkton, Md. winning the Class 4A crown despite graduating nine of the team's top 10 runners from a season ago.

On the girls side, a young but talented Falcons squad made it a program sweep, scoring 100 points.

The boys winner was Dulaney High’s Tyler Dailey, as the senior covered the 3-mile course in 16:25.13. Severna Park had three runners in the top 13.

Junior Elena Blodnikar of Leonardtown won the 4A girls individual title in 18:58.72, the only runner under 19 minutes.

Towson High swept the boys and girls 3A titles. The boys scored 62 points to claim the team championship with four finishing in the top 25. The Towson girls edged out Frederick, 81-86 for the crown. Henry Hopper of Wilde Lake was the top finisher, crossing the line in 16:11.62, while Hannah Toth of Westminster won the race for the girls in 19:07.97.

In 2A the Poolesville boys repeated as state champs, scoring 47 points going 3-4 and all five in the top 20.

Hereford senior Estelle Snider led her team to another 2A title, winning the race in 19:29.76. Her younger sister, Sylvia Snider, a sophomore, was runner-up in 19:42.7. Hereford placed five in the top 15 to score 34 points.

In Class 1A, the Northern Garrett boys and girls swept the team title. The boys scored 78 points, while the girls repeated with a dominant 52 points.
