A victory for top-ranked Kinetic (Saratoga Springs) girls at the NXR New York regional seemed a foregone conclusion, especially after two previous weekends of domination at state meets.

The defending Nike Cross Nationals champions made it official and went 2-3-4-8 overall on the way to a team score of 19 points Saturday at Bowdoin Park at NXR New York.

Twins McKinley Wheeler and Sheridan Wheeler were the top finishers for Kinetic, and Anya Belisle was fourth and Emily Bush finished eighth. The same group won the New York Class A title with 23 points and the Federation title with 20.

Lillie Bogdan (Frontier Central) used one of the final downhills to take the lead and pull away. The New York Class A runner-up finished in 18:24.9.

Rylee Ferretti (Ocean Breeze Wave Runners) was fifth, Izzie Sullivan (Fayetteville-Manlius) was sixth, Sarah Lawson was seventh and Ana (Vicky) Mordvinova took ninth to round out the individual qualifiers.

Elm Ave. AC took second and the team, from Bethlehem Central, earned the team's first NXN berth and will make the program's first appearance in Oregon since the inaugural Nike Team Nationals in 2004.

In the boys race, New York Class A champion Corning surived a scare from Assissi (St. Anthony's) and won the NXR title with 71 points. The highest ranked team in the state delivered when it mattered most and earned a spot Dec. 3 in the national finals.

Assissi managed, in a week's time, to switch the order at Feds and zoomed past MWXC (Monroe-Woodbury) for the second automatic team berth.

In a side-by-side comparison, Assissi improved dramatically in a week's time returning to the same course. Four members of the team ran faster than they had Nov. 19. Four of MW's five scorers ran a little bit slower.

Assissi finished with 76 points, MWXC 109. (A week earlier, M-W beat St. Anthony's 109-120).

Maximus Haynia, the New York Class B champion, stepped up and beat the top runners in the state and ran a winning time of 15:57.9. The NY Federation champion, Collin Gilstrap of MWXC, finished second in 16:03.5. Mason Talarico of Racing City (Saratoga Springs) was third, Class A champion Solomon Holden-Betts from Baldwinsville was fourth and Nolan McGinn (Fayetteville-Manlius) was fifth.
