Shawnti Jackson Adds 300-Meter All-Time Mark To Her Growing List of HS Records

Shawnti Jackson, already the national high school record holder in the indoor 55 and 60 meters, smashed a Sydney McLaughlin record to become the fastest of all-time in the 300 meters Saturday at the Virginia Showcase at Liberty University. 

Jackson, a senior at South Granville High in North Carolina, blasted through a lap and a half of the 200-meter oval in 36.63, breaking the record of 36.82 that McLaughlin set at The Armory in New York in 2017. 

Jackson's best time from 2022, 36.95, had her positioned at No. 2 on the all-time list coming into the season.

Second-place finisher Madison Whyte from Heritage VA (Newport News) ran 37.09 and moved to No. 4 on the all-time list. 

The VA Showcase produced a handful of all-time top 10 performances and many others that helped shaped the 2023 leaderboard. 

Jackson also took on another challenge in the 500 meters and head-to-head matchup with Sophia Gorriaran from Moses Brown RI. 

Gorriaran, No. 2 all-time in the 800 meters, ran 1:11.35 to win the 500 meters, narrowly missing her PR from 2022. Jackson was second in 1:11.94 and climbed to No. 11 on the all-time list. 

The Archbishop Carroll DC boys, anchored by Nyckoles Harbor II, blitzed through the 4x200 relay in 1:26.42 for No. 4 all-time. 

The Cuthbertson NC girls 4x800 relay team put on a show with 8:57.98 for No. 8 on the all-time list. 

In the girls 60 meters, Montverde Academy teammates Micayah Holland and Adaejah Hodge ran the two fastest times in the country. Holland's 7.21 seconds matched Shayla Sanders for No. 4 on the all-time list. Hodge's 7.24 moves her into a tie for No. 7. Holland also ran a US#2 time of 23.53 in the 200 meters. 

Montverde Academy's Zyaire Nuriddin also had an outstanding meet with a victory in the 500 meters (1:02.92). He was finished second to Harbor in the 300 meters, 33.90 to 33.92, in one of the best races of the meet.

Montverde Academy's Issam Asinga won the 60 meters in 6.73 and matched the top time in the country. He also won the 200 meters in US#3 21.58.

Montverde Academy had more wins in the field events. Micah Larry won the long jump with US#1 25-1.25 and Kyle Johnson jumped US#2 48-6 in the triple jump. 

Tinoda Matsatsa from St. Andrew's Episcopal MD won the boys 1,000 meters in US#1 2:25.68. He also won the mile in US#3 4:10.87.

The Bullis MD lineup of Gabby White, Kennedy Flynn, Morgan Rothwell and Lauren Leath ran US#1 4:04.21 in the girls sprint medley relay. A separate quartet, Myla Greene, Sage Hinton, Sydney Sutton and Mirai Bernard ran a US#1 time of 1:37.25 in the 4x200. 

Leah Stephens from Our Lady of Good Counsel MD edged Mary Bonner Dalton of Myers Park NC And Gillian Bushee from Herndon VA in the invitational girls 2-mile. Stephens ran 10:23.53 and Bonner Dalton was second in 10:23.88 and Bushee was third in 10:24.00. 

Akala Garrett from Albemarle NC moved to the top of the national list in the girls 60-meter hurdles with her victory in 8.28 seconds. 

Llyric Driscoll from Western Branch VA won the girls triple jump with a US#1 mark of 41-10.25.
