Alfred matches facility record at Albuquerque Convention Center, equals No. 20 all-time global competitor at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational and now boasts three of top four indoor marks in NCAA history, including 7.05 in prelims By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Texas senior Julien Alfred provided a glimpse Saturday of what her potential could be in March at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico, and she did so in record-setting fashion. Alfred lowered her own collegiate 60-meter dash record to 7.02 seconds at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational, improving on her 7.04 performance from the Division 1 Indoor semifinals at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama. Alfred, representing Saint Lucia, ran 7.05 in Saturday’s preliminary heat and now boasts three of the top four all-time collegiate marks. Oregon’s Kemba Nelson also clocked 7.05 to win the Division 1 indoor crown in 2021 at Randal Tyson Track Center in Arkansas. Alfred also matched the facility record previously shared by three Americans at the Albuquerque Convention Center, with Carmelita Jeter running 7.02 in 2010, Tianna Bartoletta achieving the feat in 2012 and Javianne Oliver joining the elite group in 2018. Alfred equaled the No. 20 competitor in global history, becoming the ninth individual to produce the effort. Twelve athletes have eclipsed the 7-second barrier, Alfred’s next target. Rhasidat Adeleke, who took second behind Alfred in the 60 by clocking 7.20, won the 200 against her teammate by a 22.52 to 22.71 margin. More news |
