Deep Huskies Lineup Looking To Roll In Men's Mile At Dempsey Indoor

The University of Washington men's middle distance group has eight sub-four milers, but which of them is the lead Dawg? 

Clarity on that question could come Friday night at the Washington Indoor Invitational in a men's mile race that includes all eight. 

NCAA outdoor 1,500-meter champion Joe Waskom (3:56.43 mile PR), Pac-12 steeplechase champion Brian Fay (3:55.14 mile PR), Kieran Lumb (3:55.53 mile PR), Luke Houser (3:56.57 mile PR), Nathan Green (3:58.27 mile PR), Aaron Ahl (3:57.95 mile PR) and Aidan Ryan (3:56.88 mile PR) are seven of them.

Sam Ellis, a grad school transfer from Princeton who will run unattached but has outdoor eligibility, is also in the race with a PR of 3:56.87. 

Five of the school's all-time top 10 performers in the indoor mile are on the current roster. 

Pros Sam Prakel and Johnny Gregorek are the pace-setters.

Two weeks ago at the Washington Indoor Preview, three members of the Stanford team swept the top three spots in the men's mile and all three ran under 3:58. Ky Robinson (3:55.87), Cole Sprout (3:56.53) and Thomas Boyden (3:57.06) are currently ranked 1-2-4 in the NCAA performance list. 

The Huskies could be part of a major rankings shakeup this weekend with several blockbuster meets scheduled around the country. 

On Saturday, Washington commits Amanda Moll and Hana Moll are entered in the women's pole vault. Amanda Moll became the first high school girl to break the 15-foot barrier Jan. 13 when she cleared 15-1.50 (4.61m) at the UCS Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. Her sister is knocking on the door of a 15-foot clearance too and has jumped 14-9.50 (4.51m) this winter. 

Both Molls have jumped higher than anyone in the NCAA so far this season. 

Washington duo Nastassja Campbell and Sara Borton, both currently tied at No. 8 in Division 1 this season, are also in Saturday's competition. 

The women's 800 meters features four women who have run under 2:04. Alison Andrews-Paul, the NCAA Division 2 record holder (2:01.43) and last year's indoor champion competing for Simon Fraser, is an unattached entry in the field along with Washington's Carley Thomas (2:02.93), Susan Aneno from Peninsula Distance Club (2:03.00) and Oregon's Klaudia Kazmierska (2:03.46).

The men's 800 meters is deep, with nine runners seeded with times below 1:50. 

Oregon's Elliott Cook will be joined by teammate Matthew Erickson and Washington duo Aaron Ahl and Cass Elliott.
