CHANDLER, Ariz. – Whether it was a jumping standout from Brophy Prep, a sprinting star from Long Beach Jordan or Arizona’s next elite middle-distance standout at Red Mountain, several of the top male athletes at the 83rd Chandler Rotary Invitational thrived in the spotlight at Chandler High’s Austin Field.

Brennen McHenry, a Texas commit and the only athlete in Arizona prep history to clear 7 feet in the high jump and produce a 24-foot effort in the long jump, prevailed for the third consecutive year in the elite high jump and added his first Rotary victory in the elite long jump.

McHenry earned recognition as the meet’s top male field event athlete, clearing 6-8 (2.03m) in the high jump and achieving a leap of 23-7.50 (7.20m) in the long jump.

Long Beach Jordan junior Jordan Washington rose to the occasion to sweep the elite 100-meter dash and 200 meters, producing wind-legal marks of 10.45 and 21.40.

Washington, who was selected the meet’s top male track athlete, elevated to No. 2 in meet history in the 100 and equaled the No. 7 all-time 200 effort. He also contributed to Long Beach Jordan taking third in the elite 4x100-meter relay in 42.19, a race won by Shadow Ridge High from Arizona in 42.02.

Red Mountain junior Tyler Mathews eclipsed the 2008 meet record by clocking 1:51.14 in the elite 800, taking down the 1:51.55 mark achieved by James Eichberger of Catalina High in Arizona.

Jacob Bach of Palmer Ridge High relied on a late surge to prevail in the elite 1,600 in 4:09.89, edging fellow Colorado standout Drew Costelow of Valor Christian in 4:10.48, achieving the Nos. 7 and 10 performances in meet history.

Jayden Davis, a senior at Mountain Pointe High in Arizona, clocked 47.04 in the elite 400 to ascend to the No. 2 all-time meet effort. Davis also contributed to Mountain Pointe placing second in the elite 4x400 relay in 3:21.00, with Gilbert High from Arizona securing the victory in 3:20.96.

Josiah Dye of Williams Field High triumphed in the elite 110-meter hurdles in 14.72, with fellow Arizona competitor Alexander Lutz of Corona del Sol clocking 38.45 to emerge victorious in the elite 300 hurdles.

Faith Lutheran of Nevada earned the win in the boys 4x800 relay in 8:11.38.

Preston Beery added another elite victory for Faith Lutheran with a sixth-round mark of 58-4 (17.78m) shot put, in addition to placing second in the elite discus 160-10 (49.20m).

Jack Mason of Prescott High in Arizona prevailed in the elite triple jump with a 46-2.50 (14.08m) performance, in addition to taking third in the elite long jump at 22-11 (6.98m).

Drayden Allen of Lee Williams High in Arizona triumphed in 163-2 (49.74m) in the elite discus, with Shadow Ridge’s Hayden Weaver earning the elite javelin win at 169 feet (51.51m).

Zach Bingham of Highland High in Arizona repeated in the elite pole vault by clearing 15-7 (4.75m).

Zander Cruzan of Montezuma-Cortez High in Colorado highlighted the seeded section Saturday by winning the 100 and 200 in 10.94 and 21.73, respectively.
