Bentonville Overtakes Fayetteville With 6A Title Sweep

The Bentonville girls won nine events, including all four relay finals, on the way to a 235-point total at the Arkansas track and field championships. And the boys also won, with 165 points, as the Tigers unseated Fayetteville, which swept the 2022 titles.

Fayetteville was second in the boys and girls team standings this time.

Senior Emelia Thurston placed second in the long jump and triple jump, was third in the 100 meters and seventh in the 200, and was part of Bentonville's victories in the 4x100 (48,34) and 4x200 (1:43.20). Teammate Madison Galindo won the 1,600, the 3,200, placed third in the 800, and was on the winning 4x800 relay team. Allison Fernstrom won the 400 and was on the winning 4x400 and 4x800 relays. 

The Bentonville boys just missed the all-time state record in the 4x800 with 7:52.26. Christian Farrow was second in the triple jump, fourth in the long jump and seventh in the high jump. 

Raghan Allen of Conway won the 6A girls titles in the 100 meters in 11.92 and the 200 in 24.76w. 

Hudson Betts of Fayetteville won the boys 1,600 (4:16.64) and the 3,200 (9:21.34) and was part of two scoring relays. 

In Class 5A, DeAndra Burns Jr of El Dorado ran a state-leading 48.17 seconds to win the 400 meters final and he jumped 23-2.50 to win the long jump. He anchored the winning 4x200 relay and was also second in both the 100 and 200 meters. 

Russellville, though, won the 5A boys title on the strength of River Hardman's state-leading 800 (1:52.69) and his his second-place finish in the 1,600 meters. Kercher Herring won the pole vault (15-2) and placed third in both hurdles events.  

Sophomore Zyron Brock helped El Dorado win the 5A girls championship. She won 400 meters in 58.11 seconds, placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 100. In field events, she won the long jump (18-4.50), was second in the triple jump and fourth in the high jump. 

Garrion Curry won the 100 meters (11.03) and the 100 hurdles (14.54) to help Magnolia win the Class 4A boys title. 

Warren won the girls title, with Aria Hunt, who was second in the 100 and 400, and Azul Garcia, who was second in the 800 and third in the 1,600, doing much of the damage. Warren also won the 4x200. 

Anna Woolsey from Ozark raced to a sprint triple, winning the 4A 100 (12.07), 200 (25.10) and 400 (56.88). She also won the pole vault and was third in the 100-meter hurdles for a total of 46 points. 

De'Andra Burns Jr. ran 11.09 into a headwind to win the 5A 100 meters and also placed third in the 200 and second in the 400 (49.01). The 400 final was very close, with Beebe's Adrian Carranco taking the win in 49.00. Burns also won the long jump with 23-0.50.

Carranco also won the triple jump with 48-1.25.

Sisters Ellie and Emma Akins helped lift Mountain View to the 3A team championship. Ellie, a junior, won the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters, was third in the 800, an was part of the runner-up 4x400 relay team. Emma, a freshman, was second in the 800, fifth in the triple jump and also part of the 4x400. 

Prescott's boys dominated the 3A meet and thrower Rocco Patrick helped the team with wins in the shot put (54-6) and discus (180-3). Teammate Jakelyon Jones swept the hurdles finals and also took second in the long jump, was third in the triple jump and was part of the third-place 4x400 relay team. 

Kambree Gibson of Yellville-Summit starred in the 2A meet with wins in the 100, 200, 100H and 300H and second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. Teammate KJ Moore won the 400 and the high jump. 

Tate Stacks of Quitman led his team the 2A title with his victories in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Khamani Hendrix of Mineral Springs won the Class 1A 100 (11.13), 200 (22.23), was second in the long jump (21-0.25) and was part of two scoring relays. Sophomore Isaac Pohlmeier and his distance teammates rolled up big points on the way to a team title for Ozark Catholic Academy.

Junior Peyton Macejewski of Mt Ida came up big with a quadruple in the 1A girls finals, winning the 400 (60.46), the 800 (2:37.02), the 1,600 (5:36.84) and the 3,200 (13:08.51). Kingston School won the team title with 79 points.
