In a state meet that concluded late at night due to lengthy weather delays (May 4-6), Scotlandville and Zachary tied for the Class 5A girls team championship with both teams landing on 70 points.

Makeriah Harris, who broke Alia Armstrong's all-time Louisiana best in the 300-meter hurdles earlier this season, helped Scotlandville retain a piece of the title it won in 2022. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.49 seconds and 300 hurdles in 41.49 and also anchored the winning 4x200 relay (1:36.80).

Harris' teammate Sade Gray won the 100 in 11.86 and repeated her 200 title with 24.35 seconds. The two juniors combined for 40 individual points.

Zachary, meanwhile, got 35 points from Jaydan Jackson and Ambria Langley, who went 1-2 in the discus late in the meet to catch Scotlandville. Jackson also won the shot put (44-1.50) as Langley was third in that event.

Baton Rouge Catholic retained the 5A boys title as senior Winston DeCuir anchored a victory in the 4x400 relay and placed second in both the 400 (48.06) and 800 (1:52.42). Hurdler Louis Rudge was second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.13) and third in the 300 (37.71). The team also got a lift from javelin champion Paul Catalanatto Jr, who threw 201-9.

The distance crew from Jesuit of New Orleans got a 1-2 finish in the 1,600 meters from Michael Vocke (4:15.60) and Jack DesRoches and another 1-2 sweep in the 3,200 with Patrick Dowd and Robert Buisson

Junior Armani Cargo from John Ehret won the 100 meters in 10.45 seconds and the 200 in 21.15.
