Kennedy Stringfellow Breaks All-Time State Long Jump Record With US#1 25-4; Pearl Boys, Clinton Girls Win 6A Titles; Heidi Hudson Jumps 6-0 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Kennedy Stringfellow of Brandon leapt to the top of the national leaderboard in the long jump when he jumped 25 feet, 4 inches to win the Mississippi Class 6A title on May 10. The conclusion of the state meet had been delayed for several days due to weather. Stringfellow, who had previously tied Cameron Crump's all-time state best (24-8.50), also won the 200 meters in 21.39 seconds and was second in the 100 meters in 10.92. The boys from Pearl won their 18th state track championship. Tanner Moore won the 800 (1:55.91) and 1,600 meters (4:32.51) and Connor Mozee added a victory in the discus (153-4). Pearl also won the 4x800 (8:06.75). Clinton held onto the girls 6A title with 159 points. Kaitlyn Jones won the 100 hurdles (15.28) and the 300 hurdles (44.44). Clinton also won the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400. Meagan Womack broke the all-time Mississippi record in the girls shot put with 45-4.50 and also won the discus with 145-9. Addison McLaurin of Brandon swept the 6A sprint finals, taking the 100 (12.07), the 200 (24.49) and the 400 (56.80). John Scott Kendricks of Oxford, the little brother of two-time world champion and American record holder Sam Kendricks, won his second straight 6A pole vault title with a clearance at 17 feet. Sophomore Sahara Cooper of Gulfport, one of the first pupils of new high school coach Brittney Reese (four-time world champion and Olympic champion), won the 6A long jump with 18-4.25. DYESTAT DISCUSSION with BRITTNEY REESE Kendarius Wade of Callaway won the 5A titles in the 100 (10.66) and 200 (21.68). Khristan Watson of Columbus jumped 6-10 to win the 5A high jump. Heidi Hudson of Sumrall matched the top clearance in the country this year when she won the 4A high jump with 6-0. She also jumped 20-0.50 to win the long jump. Devron Cloyd of Columbia won a 4A jumps triple, with 6-4 in the high jump, 22-10 in the long jump and 47-5.50 in the triple jump. Kendrell Robertson helped Tylertown to another 3A boys title with his sweep of the hurdles (14.45/41.10). Tylertown also won the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400. Eighth grader Charve Gibson of Jefferson County won a pair of state titles in the triple jump (37-4) and the 300 hurdles (47.23). She also was second in the long jump and fourth in the 100. The state's top track and field athlete, Roury McCloyen of St. Joseph Catholic (Greenville), won the MAIS 4A shot put (62-1) and discus (189-5) titles. McCloyen demolished the Mississippi shot put records this season and has a best of 67-4 from the adidas Indoor Nationals.
