TEXAS STATE MEET

Texas Commit Lauren Lewis Runs All-Time Texas Best 51.45 400 Meters

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Prosper's Lauren Lewis smashed the all-time Texas record in the 400 meters and did it on her future home track at the University of Texas, running 51.45 to tie for No .10 all-time at the UIL Outdoor Championships last weekend. Her time is also a US#1 for 2023.

Lewis also won the 6A title in the 200 meters with 23.43.

Lightning in the area caused officials to halt the 6A girls 3,200 meters halfway through the race on Saturday morning. The runners were stopped and had to wait hours for a re-start.

San Juanita Leal of Edinburg North came back strong and beat the talented twins from Flower Mound, Samantha and Nicole Humphries, with a 67.5-second close to finish in 10:19.19. Samantha Humphries was second in 10:22.84 and Nicole Humphries was third in 10:23.22.

It also made for a difficult double back to the 1,600. Leal won that, as well, in 4:47.36. Samantha Humphries was second in 4:48.40 and Nicole Humphries was third in 4:50.39.

A fantastic boys 6A 3,200 saw Reese Vannerson of Houston Strake Jesuit lead four boys under 9 minutes with a winning time of 8:49.10. Vannerson doubled back to win the 1,600 in 4:08.08.

The nation's top hurdler, Alex Chukwukelu from North Forney, won the 110 hurdles in a wind-legal best of 13.42 and the 300s in 36.30. Donovan Bradley of Humble Summer Creek, last year's DyeStat Dual Meet national championship team, settled for silver in both events with 13.66/36.46.

Klein Forest put together two strong relay efforts (No. 9 all-time 40.01 in the 4x100 and 3:11.69 in the 4x400) on the way to the 6A team title. Jelani Watkins ran a US#4 time of 20.54 to win the 200 meters final.

Duncanville got an important contribution from Indyia Walton in the two hurdles finals to go with three scoring relays on the way to the 6A team title.

The nation's top discus thrower, World U20 champion Emma Sralla of Lewisville Marcus, threw 184 feet to win her second straight 6A title.

Rock Hill's Skylynn Townsend won the long jump (19-8.25) and triple jump (41-6.25).

Rylee Hampton of Houston Cypress Ridge (13.64) and Sidney Green of Allen (41.08) ran elite times in the 6A girls hurdles finals. Both are ranked second nationally in their respective events.

The national record watch for Fort Bend Marshall in the boys 4x100 came and went with a rough hand-off that prevented the team from surpassing its season best of 39.80 (US#1). Red Oak won the highly anticipated race in 40.29 seconds and Fort Bend Marshall was third.

Still, Fort Bend Marshall pulled out the team victory thanks to its relay work and the sensational Arveyon Davis, who ran US#3 13.55 to win the 110-meter hurdles.

Adam Burlison from Grapevine doubled in the 5A distance finals, with 4:08.64 to win the 1,600 meters and 8:54.57 to win the 3,200.

Bradford Jennings of CC Flour Bluff won the 5A high jump with a clearance at US#3 7-1.75.

Sophomore Alyssa Jones from Comal Smithson Valley helped her team to the 5A trophy with her victory in the 200 (23.59), a second-place long jump (19-3.50) and she ran on winning 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

Michaela Mouton of Killeen ran US#6 53.21 to win the 400 meters.

Taylor Fingers of Mansfield Timberview won the long jump with 20-1w and was second in the triple jump with 41-1 and was part of two scoring relays.

Sprinter Will Henderson led the Gilmer boys to the Class 4A team title with his win in the 100 meters (10.28) and anchor legs on the 4x100 and 4x200 winning relays.

Austen Diggs of LaGrange, a junior, won the boys 4A 200 in 20.82 seconds.

Jarvis Anderson of Taylor turned in a sensational hurdles double, sweeping the 4A 110s (US#5 13.64) and 300 (US#2 35.96).

Oliver Miles of El Campo, a junior, jumped US#3 50-10 to win the triple jump.

Victoria Cameron from Stephenville put on a show in the 4A sprints, running a wind-legal 11.35 seconds and anchoring her school's 4x100 relay team to fourth place and the 4x200 to third.

Hannah Stuart helped power Canyon to the 4A girls crown with her victories in the 1,600 meters (4:54.28) and the 3,200 (10:30.12). Addy Bristow added a second-place finish in the 800 (2:15.09).

Taylor Nunez of University City Randolph was the star of the Class 3A meet and pushed her team to another title with victories in the 100 (11.44w), 200 (23.42w), the long jump (20-2.50) and the 4x100 relay (47.27).

Shadasia Brackens of Fairfield beat Abby Elmore of Gunter on fewer misses in the 3A girls high jump as both cleared 5-10.

Andon Mata helped New London West Rusk win the 3A boys team title with his second place in the 200 meters (21.68) and taking a leg on the winning 4x200 relay. Calvin Mason also picked up crucial points in the throws, with second place in the shot put and third place in the discus.

Refugio's Ernest Campbell had a sensational meet in the 2A classification, running 10.22 to win the 100 meters, 20.92 to win the 200 meters and anchoring the winning 4x100 relay. Campbell, a junior, is a top football recruit as well.

Praiyer Jones from Marlin threw 61-10 to win the 2A shot put title.

Refugio, Stamford and Panhandle split up the relays points and wound up in a three-way tie for the 2A girls team title with 32 points apiece.

Sophomore Graci Brown from Nocona won the 2A finals of the 400 meters (57.56) and the 800 (2:15.84).
