Paityn Noe Runs 9:38/4:28 Distance Double To Break 3A Meet Records

Ballard Community’s Paityn Noe didn’t have a ton of competition in her final high school state meet, but the senior didn’t let that stop her from two record-setting performances at the Iowa State High School Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Noe started off the meet by running 9:38.82 in the 3,000 meters, smashing the Class 3A record of 9:55.37 set in 2017 by Joy Ripslinger. Noe won the race by 52 seconds. Noe, who will run for Arkansas in the fall, followed that up on Saturday winning her first 1,500 title with the fourth-best time in state history, finishing in 4:28.80. Her time broke Ainsley Erzen's 3A record of 4:36.96. Noe's time is US#6. 

Solon won the 3A girls team title with 79 points. 

Spencer’s Jerra Merchant won the 100 hurdles in a meet record of 14.48. 

Jessica Kyne of Hoover claimed the 100, 200, and was part off the winning 4x100. 

Pella won the boys 3A title with 73 points. Western Dubuque finished second with 63 points. Chase Lauman won the 800 in a meet record time of 1:52.61, besting the previous record of  1:53.74 set in 2008, to lead Pella. He added titles in the 1,600 (4:16.90) and 3,200 (9:22.48). 

Duke Faley of Dubuque Wahlert Catholic won the discus title with a meet record throw of 195-1, breaking Tristan Wirfs’ 2017 record of 190-10. 

Will Neuharth of Harlan won the 100 in a meet record 10.68. He also won the 200 (21.53) and was part of the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays. 

Mount Vernon’s Zach Fall claimed the 400 (48.53) and ran on the first-place 4x400 and SMR relays. 

Class 4A 

The Waukee Northwest girls claimed the 4A crown with 74 points. 

Ames’ Ali Frandsen won the 100 hurdles (14.10), 400 hurdles (1:01.98) and ran on the winning 4x400. 

Junior Addi Dorenkamp of West Des Moines Valley claimed the 1,600 (4:31.57) and 3,000 (9:46.33).

Olivia Kramer of Dowling Catholic won the 100 (12.12) and was part of the winning 4x100 and shuttle hurdle relays. 

The Johnston boys held off Ankeny to win the program’s first state title with 84 points. Ankeny finished second with 80 points. Johnston secured the win with a blistering 4x400 time of 3:15.26. 

Iowa City West’s Christian Janis was part of four relay victories — shuttle hurdles, 4x100, 4x200 and DMR.  

Distance star Jackson Heidesch of Dowling Catholic won the 1,600 again in 4:07.18 and claimed the 3,200 (9:06.86). 

In the field, Linn-Mar’s TJ Jackson won a competitive high jump, clearing 6-11. 

Class 2A

Panorama’s Jaidyn Sellers dominated the sprints, winning the 100 (12.06), 200 (24.98) and 400 (56.67). The 100 and 200 titles were her third straight. 

Mid-Prairie junior Danielle Hostetler won the 3,000 final in a time of 10:20.73 for her third straight title.

Sheldon’s Maddie Olson cleared 5-9 to win her third straight high jump title. 

In the 2A girls team race, Van Meter claimed the title with 71 points. 

Williamsburg and Mediapolis tied for the boys championship as both teams finished with 62 points. Des Moines Christian was a close runner-up with 58 points. 

Williamsburg junior Derek Weisskopf, who is verbally committed to the University of Iowa for football, won the 2A high jump, clearing 6-7, and placed second in the shot put (55-5.75). Senior Spencer Kessel of Louisa-Muscatine won the shot put  with a mark of US#15 64-1.25. 

Class 1A

Sophomore Noelle Steines anchored Calamus-Wheatland to the program’s first SMR relay championship in a time of 4:10.65 and also added gold in the 3,000 (10:13.95). Calamus-Wheatland won the 1A team championship with 38 points. 

Midland senior Jaden Gatts cleared 5-5 to win the 1A high jump and make history for her school as the first winner in that event. 

Bishop Garrigan’s Audi Crooks made history with her victory in the Class 1A shot put. Crooks threw 44-0.75  to win the event for the third straight year. She’s the first three-time champion in 1A since Iowa went to four classes in 2004

Ryce Reynolds made sure to leave his mark in a number of events leading his team to a 1A state championship. The Mount Ayr junior won the 400 hurdles for the second straight year and broke a meet record in a time of 52.70, besting the previous best of 52.85 set in 2011 by Madrid’s Nick Efkamp. Reynolds won the 400 (48.21) in a meet record time, beating the previous mark of 48.32 from 2007.  

Triston Miller of Columbus Community won the 110 hurdles in a record time of 14.12. The previous record of 14.41 stood since 1997. 

Akron-Westfield’s Ian Blowe won the shot put title (55-11.25), the first athlete to win a field event for the school. He also won the discus title (161-8).

Lisbon claimed the 1A boys title with 60 points. 

In the wheelchair competition, Ally Darter of Dubuque Hempstead claimed four titles — 100, 200, 400 and the shot put.
