Lademi Davies, Jack Gillogly Draped In Golds At Class A Championship

Omaha Westside’s Lademi Davies made sure to make the most of her final prep state meet.

At the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships held May 17-20 at Burke Stadium in Omaha, the senior won an impressive four gold medals to propel her team to a runner-up Class A state title with 61 points. Davies did it all for her team, winning the 100 (11.71w), 200 (24.34w), long jump (19-9.75) and triple jump (38-6.25) titles to score 40 points. 

Jack Gillogly from Creighton Prep completed an historic season of sprinting on the boys side. Earlier this month he broke the state's 61-year-old all-time best in the 200 meters when he ran 20.90. At state, he won the 100 in 10.43w and the 200 in 20.99w. He also anchored the 4x100 relay to 41.26 seconds for an all-time Nebraska best and was part of the winning effort in the 4x400. Creighton Prep won the team title with 97 points.

The boys 100 final was a highlight, with Gillogly beating Jaylen Lloyd of Omaha Westside, who ran 10.47 in the windy (+2.6) race. Lloyd, the reigning Nike Outdoor Nationals long jump champion, won the long jump (23-2.25) and triple jump (47-11.75). 

The Class A team title went to Papillion-La Vista South with 73 points. 

Berlyn Schutz from Lincoln East won the girls 800 meters final in 2:11.57 and the 1,600 in 4:50.09. 

Jaci Sievers of Elkhorn South won the 3,200 (10:36.55) and was second in the 1,600. 

In the hurdles races, Katie Campos of Lincoln Pius X got the sweep with 14.89 (100H) and 44.03 seconds (300H). 

In the distance events, Millard West’s Jack Witte won the 3,200 (9:19.45), 1,600 (4:14.37) and was third in the 800. 

Caiden Fredrick of Papillion La Vista South won the discus with 195-2. In the shot put, Sam Cappos of Lincoln East launched a winning mark of 63-9.75 and Fredrick was second with 61-10.25. 

Class B

Norris girls tallied 72 points to win the Class B title. 

Bennington senior Kennedy Wade won the 100 (11.97) and 200 (24.58). Alonna Depalma from Waverly ran 56.38 for a state leading time to win the 400 meters and also anchored the state's fastest 4x400 relay (3:56.89).

Ellie Thomas from Norris won an 800 meters showdown with Madison Seiler from Gering, 2:13.65 to 2:14.30. 

In Class B boys action, Waverly boys scored 75 points to claim the team title. Junior Riley Boonstra won the 3,200 (9:39.28) and 1,600 (4:18.71). Sophomore Braxton Smith ran the state's fastest 400 meters with 48.07, finished second in the 200 and helped power the winning 4x400 relay. 

Ethan Baessler from Blair won the 100 meters in 10.53 seconds and the 200 meters in 21.60w. He anchored the second-place 4x400 relay team and the eighth-place 4x100. 

Jackson Roberts from Boone Central edged out Jacob Horner of Elkhorn North in the 300-meter hurdles final, 37.69 to 37.70. 

Class C

The Bishop Neumann girls scored 43 points to claim the Class C title, edging out Chase County and Kearney Catholic, who both finished tied for second with 40.33 points. 

Crofton junior Jordyn Arens won the 1,600 (5:12.69) and 3,200 (11.23.94).

Kinslee Bosak of Bishop Neumann edged out Hadley Cheatham from Summerland in one of the best races of the entire state meet in the 300-meter hurdles final, 44.54 to 44.59. 

Chase County boys won the Class C title with 66 points. 

Carson Noecker of Cedar Catholic won the 3,200 in 9:07.73, nearly 50 seconds faster than the runner-up. He added another gold in the 1,600 (4:19.35) ands ran on the winning 4x800 really (8:16.74). 

Kade Pieper of Norfolk Catholic, one of the nation's top throwers, won the shot put with 63-7.50. 

Class D

Osceola girls edged out Nebraska Christian 48-42 for the Class D title. Junior Fayth Winkleman led Osceola with a first-place finishes in the 100 (12.76) and 200 (26.07).

In the field, Burning-Davenport/Shickley’s JessaLynn Hudson won her third straight shot put state title (44-2.75) and added a victory in the discus with a mark of 138-2. 

The Plainfield boys won the Class D title with 53 points. 

Viktar Kachalouski of Parkview Christian cleared 6-7 to win the high jump.
