DyeStat preseason picks to qualify for NXN: Belen Jesuit FL McCallie School TN Current Prediction: Belen Jesuit FL McCallie School TN Notes: Belen Jesuit of Miami has its best team ever, and possibly the best in Florida history, and has been the best team in the Southeast region this fall by a wide margin. Still, the team has a significant challenge this weekend when it will honor its state meet in Florida by running a strong team before transitioning to the NXR Southeast regional at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, N.C. two days later. Joshua Ruiz and Marcelo Mantecon give Belen Jesuit a strong 1-2 punch but the team is also deep and could put together a low score on Sunday. The battle for the No. 2 spot could be very close. Last year, Farragut of Tennessee got the spot and McCallie School, also of Tennessee, was third. Those two schools compete in different classifications and won their state titles again this fall and they are two of the leading contenders to gain the second automatic qualifying berth. McCallie School fell out of the rankings for a bit, but it appears that strategy to have the A-list lineup ready to go at the end of the season may be paying off. However, there are more teams that are in the mix: University of West Virginia, Marvin Ridge of North Carolina, Vestavia Hills of Alabama and Calvert Hall of Maryland are among them. Individually, Noah Valyo, the North Carolina state champion, Ethan Edgeworth, the Alabama 2A/1A champion, Tommy Latham from Georgia, Berkley Nance of Virginia, and Miles Ramer and Keegan Smith of Tennessee are all leading contenders for NXN qualifying.

DyeStat preseason picks to qualify for NXN: Cuthbertson NC Webb School of Knoxville TN Current Prediction: Tatnall School DE Cardinal Gibbons NC Notes: Tatnall School had the most impressive run of any girls program in regional history with seven consecutive appearances at Nike Team Nationals and Nike Cross Nationals from 2006-12. Although no girls team from Delaware has qualified since, Tatnall has an opportunity to add to its regional record Sunday in its return to WakeMed Soccer Complex. Tatnall prevailed Oct. 7 in the Garmin Race of Champions at the Great American Cross Country Festival, part of an impressive three-meet stretch with the group earning victories Sept. 30 at the Carlisle Invitational in Pennsylvania, followed by Great American and culminating Oct. 14 at the Manhattan Invitational in New York. Abby Downin, Katie Payne, Carlita Kaliher, Ruby Schwelm and Katrina Endres all placed in the top seven to lead Tatnall in the Delaware Division 2 state championship meet. The next three teams behind Tatnall at Great American were Cardinal Gibbons of North Carolina, Assumption from Kentucky and reigning regional champion Cuthbertson of North Carolina, all of which will be in contention for an automatic berth, in addition to last year’s NXR Southeast runner-up Webb School of Knoxville, which arrives again at WakeMed as an underdog, but even stronger than last season. Assumption is seeking its first NXN appearance since 2013 and Cardinal Gibbons hasn’t qualified for NXN since 2017, which is also the last time the region secured an at-large berth, with Cuthbertson and Webb School of Knoxville both pursuing back-to-back trips to Oregon. Cuthbertson has had its lineup compromised with the absence of senior Stella Kermes, last year’s regional runner-up, who hasn’t competed since Great American, but the presence of NXN veterans Charlotte Bell and Justine Preisano makes the lineup capable of returning to Oregon in December. Hannah Rae Shaffer leads Cardinal Gibbons, which earned eighth at the regional last season, and is joined by fellow top 10 finishers from last season Eliana Black of IMG Elite from Florida and Aidan MacGrath from West Springfield in Virginia. Allie Zealand from Pacers in Virginia, as well as Covenant School teammates Reese Dalton and Maddie Gardiner are among the top individual contenders, in addition to Brynn Crandell of Indian River in Delaware, Alivia Cleveland from Fort Mill in South Carolina, Sarah Tole of Auburn in Alabama and Madeline Gump from Morgantown in West Virginia having strong opportunities to earn individual qualifying berths as well.
