Chloe Foerster Breaks School Mile Record at Husky Classic

Foerster Moves To No. 3 On NCAA List, Aaron Las Heras Doubles Back To Win Mile; Owen Powell Runs US#2 1,000 Meters

Washington sophomore Chloe Foerster broke Katie Flood's 12-year-old University of Washington school record in the indoor mile Saturday, running 4:28.14 on the second day of the Husky Classic at Dempsey Indoor.

Foerster's time was a personal best by nearly eight seconds. It also lifted her to No. 4 on the NCAA list. 

Portland's Laura Pellicoro also ran a new PR in second place, 4:31.39. BYU's Lexy Halladay-Lowry doubled back from her victory in the 3,000 meters Friday night to place third in 4:31.89. 

Aaron Las Heras from Northern Arizona also competed a big weekend double by winning the mile in 3:58.22, edging out Southern Utah's Isaiah Labra and teammate Kang Nyoak at the finish line. Labra was second in 3:58.42 and Nyoak was third in 3:58.54. 

A fourth sub-four miler Saturday, Ollie Newman of Boise State, ran 3:59.79. 

BYU's Meghan Hunter won a close women's 800 meters race against NAU's Maggie Congdon, 2:02.17 to 2:02.20. 

Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona won the men's 800 meters in 1:47.88. 

Owen Powell, the high school junior from Mercer Island High and the son of Washington coaches Maurica and Andy Powell, ran a US#2 time of 2:24.41 -- a new all-time Washington best. Steven Hergenrother from Connecticut ran US#1 and No. 7 all-time 2:23.88 earlier in the day in Boston. 

Josiah Tostenson of Rogue Valley Runners (Crater High) broke two all-time Oregon records within an hour. In the mile, he ran 4:03.38 for 14th place overall. And 40 minutes later, he the fastest 1,000 in state history with third place in 2:31.18.

Chloe Huyler of Pacer Project (Lakeridge OR) broke Oregon's indoor mile record for girls with 4:47.58. 

Prestin Artis of Washington won the men's long jump with 25-4.50 (7.73m).

Washington also picked up field event victories in the women's shot put, where Kaia Tupu-South won by nearly nine feet with 56-4 (17.17m), and freshman Amanda Moll won the pole vault with 14-4 (4.37m). 

Roderick Soto from Multnomah won the men's 400 meters in 48.36 seconds. 

Journey Cole (GLS Speed/Redondo Union CA) won the women's 60-meter dash in 7.45 seconds. 

Miguel Rosario from Seattle edged prep standout Dominick Corley in the men's 60, 6.74 to 6.75.
