Kassidi Watkins, Jordan Atkinson Lead Mustang To First Girls State Title

It was an historic weekend for the Mustang girls track and field program at the 6A/5A Oklahoma State Track and Field Championships held at Western Heights High. 

Under first-year head coach Shannon Atkinson, the Mustang’s scored 122.21 points to win the 6A title —  the first track state title in program history. The team had strong performance all around as Kassidi Watkins, a junior, won the long jump in a 6A meet  record mark of 20-01.50. Watkins is currently ranked US#10. 

Teammate Jordan Atkinson claimed the 100 (11.74) and 200 (23.75) and the two ran together on the winning 4x100 relay. 

Edmond Memorial’s Kayvon Nubine won the 100 hurdles in 13.70, a 6A meet record time. 

The Tulsa Union boys scored 120 points to defend their 6A title. 

Deer Creek senior Brody Woodcock won the 1,600 (4:15.25) and 3,200 (9:09.92) titles. He was second in the 800 (1:52.91) as Southmoore’s Joshua Rammage won in a record time of 1:51.35. 

5A

The Lincoln Christian girls claimed the 5A title with 123 points. Midwest City’s Deanna Douglas won the 5A shot put title in 44-3.50. 

The Carl Albert boys claimed the 5A title, the first since 2018 as they defeated Lincoln Christin 89.17-85. The team broke the state meet 4x200 relay record on Friday, and the end the meet on Saturday with a decisive victory in the 4x400. 

Trystan Haynes, an Oklahoma football signee, ran on the winning 4x100 relay for Carl Albert and also won the 400 in 47.24. 

4A/3A - Catoosa, May 3 & 4 - Mike Mobra Track Complex 

It took some time, but the Ada boys track team finally returned to the top. The Cougars won the program’s first state title since 1976, scoring 102.5 points to claim the 4A trophy. 

Ada was paced by Xander Rhymes, who won his second straight 400 gold title, clocking 48.07. Ada also won the 4x200 and 4x400 relay titles. 

North Rock Creeks’ Maddox Motley won the 110 hurdles (14.45) and 300 hurdles (38.48). 

In the field, Dewey’s Braden Garrison won the shot 64-4.75, good for US#12. 

The Douglass girls won the program’s fourth state title 76 points.

Briana Jones paced Douglass with a victory in the 400, second in the 200, and ran on the winning 4x400 relay.

Clinton’s Kat Meacham, the US#2 discus thrower in the country, won the state title with a throw of 153-8.

Ada’s Tyley Dotson won the shot put with a throw of 45-6 and was second in the discus. 

3A

Junior Jonathon Brite led Marlow to a 3A boys title winning the 100 (10.81) and 200 (21.84), while teammate Chan Durham swept the throws, claiming the shot and discus titles. 

Kiefer’s Ty Burnett went 6-10 in the high jump to win. 

In 3A girls, Washington claimed the state championship winning the 4x200 and 4x800 relays. This was the first title since 1986. Washington’s Julie Hoehner won the shot put with a throw of 38-9.

2A/1A - Western Heights High School, May 3 & 4

With depth and history of winning, the Hooker track and field team did not disappoint. 

The Hooker boys defended their title with a dominating 121 points, winning the 4x400 and  4x800 relays and capturing second in the 4x100 and 4x200. 

The Hooker girls also made their presence felt in the relays winning the 4x400 and 4x800 relays and capturing second in the 4x100 and 4x200. 

Stroud’s Peyton Davis won the 100 hurdles, 100 and 200 dash. 

1A 

The Texhoma girls claimed the 1A title led by Jaque Berry who won the 100 and 300 hurdles. 

In the field, Shattuck’s May Pachner defended her pole vault title in a state meet record of 12-6.50. 

Junior Pepper Elmore of Kremlin-Hilladale won the long jump, 100 and 200 titles. 

Sophomore Clay McKinney of Regent Prep pulled off the impressive sweep of the distance events claiming the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 titles.

Class 6A - Union boys 120 points, Mustang girls 122.21 points

Class 5A - Carl Albert boys 89.17 points, Lincoln Christian girls 123 points 

Class 4A - Ada boys 102.5 points, Douglass girls 76 points - RESULTS

Class 3A - Marlow boys 116 points, Washington girls 80 points - RESULTS

Class 2A - Hooker boys 121 points, Hooker girls girls 91 points - RESULTS

Class 1A - Tipton boys 81 points, Texhoma girls 87.2 points - RESULTS
