Vance Nilsson's exploration of the 400-meter hurdles continued Friday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships in College Station, Texas.

Nilsson, who smashed the high school record in the 300-meter hurdles during the prep season in Arizona, has gained valuable experience with the longer race since June.

Nilsson, representing Arizona Flames Track Club, won the USATF U20 title in the event on June 13, and made it to the semifinal round of the Olympic Trials, where he ran a personal-best 49.77 seconds.

At the Junior Olympics, Nilsson won the men's 17-18 title with 50.31 seconds and later also placed third in the 110-meter hurdles in 13.69w.

It was a good mid-summer opportunity to compete, because the Florida recruit is slated to compete for the U.S. at the World Athletics U20 Championships in Peru at the end of August.

Malik White of San Antonio Swift Track Club won the men's 110 hurdles in a wind-aided 13.52.

Jasmine Robinson, like Nilsson a member of the U.S. U20 team, won the women's 17-18 400 hurdles in 57.57 seconds. The standout from Georgia's The Heat Track Club ran 57.31 when she finished second in the USATF U20 final last month.

Madeline Cooper of Sapphire-Ruff Riders Track Club, ran a personal-best and meet-record time of 13.33 seconds, edging Zoe Ziglor of Win Sportswear (13.35) to win the women's 17-18 100 hurdles. Cooper is the Georgia Class 2A champion and had a previous best of 13.53.

Robinson was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 13.61.

Jasir Fontenot of Mercury San Diego broke the meet record in the boys 15-16 110-meter hurdles final with 13.65 seconds. That took down a 17-year-old record by Wayne Davis II.

Daisha Brunson from TNT Track & Field Academy won the girls 15-16 100 hurdles in 13.60.

In the boys 13-14 division, Cyrus Martin of Atlanta Lightspeed Track won a photo finish against Tanner Sparks in the 100 hurdles after both were timed in 13.36 seconds.

Shyla Boydstun from San Antonio Swift ran 13.95 to win the girls 13-14 age group title in the 100 hurdles.

Amir Thompson (unattached) and Jayden Deon Finley (Athletic Performance) both ran 10.25 seconds in the prelims of the men's 17-18 100 meters.

Lisa Raye of Providence Cobras (RI) ran 11.29 seconds to break the meet record in the 100-meter dash prelims in the girls 15-16 division.

Raye's time was faster than Indya Mayberry from Team Quest TC, who was the fastest qualifier to the finals in the 17-18 age group with 11.35.

Kenyon Andrews from GLS Speed won the boys 15-16 400-meter hurdles in a dominant time of 52.77 seconds.

Renna Rubenstein of Chelsea Greyhounds ran 59.77 to win the girls 15-16 400-hurdles title.

Benjamin Shue won the men's 17-18 title in the discus with 201-0 (61.26m).

Niqualas Chew from OK Flash Track Club won a close contest with Cordial Vann of Major Impact TX in the men's 17-18 long jump, 24-11.25 (7.60m) to 24-10 (7.57m)

Jordan Hamb of Windy City Hammers won the girls 15-16 triple jump with 41-5.75 (12.64m).

Valerie Hunt of the Odessa Flying Lions won the women's 17-18 shot put with a personal best mark of 49-11.25 (15.22m).

Brynn Kleinke joined her older sister Addison as a national champion in the girls pole vault. Kleinke won the 13-14 age group with a personal-best clearance of 11-5.75 (3.55m).
