The week-long age-group national championship concluded Sunday morning and Thompson was one of a handful of athletes who have set themselves up to be among the top high school athletes in the country in 2025. Thompson, of TakeOff (Georgia), ran 1:53.46 to win the men's 17-18 division of the 800 meters one day after winning the 400 meters in 46.15 seconds. Thompson, who attends Westlake GA, ran faster in his 800 prelim (1:53.09) and had a season's best of 1:51.91 back in April. In the men's 17-18 100-meter dash final, Brayden Dashun Williams of Athletic Performance (AP Ranch) of Texas ran a personal-best time of 10.14 seconds with a maximum legal wind of +2.0 meters per second.
