Indoor Season Continues To Lift Off At JAMBAR Coaches Hall of Fame InvitationalPublished by
No Quincy Wilson Yet, But Bullis MD Gets Handful Of Strong Pre-Christmas Performances; Taylor Cox And Taylor Aska Out Of Blocks Fast For Union Catholic NJ By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Quincy Wilson, America's favorite 16-year-old Olympian, was in the house Saturday at The Armory in New York City but not in uniform. The Bullis School MD junior will probably enter his first open race in mid-January. But he could make an appearance in a 4x800 relay as early as next week when the team returns to The Armory. On Saturday, the spotlight was turned elsewhere as some of the top athletes in the region got their first chance to run on the new blue oval in Washington Heights. At the heart of Saturday's meet was a celebration of outstanding coaches. The Armory inducted six more high school legends into its Hall of Fame: Marcia Bailey (Hendrick Hudson, NY), Brian Corcoran (Pope John XXIII, NJ), Pat Castagno (Tatnall, DE), Gail Emmanuel (Benjamin Cardozo, NY), Lou Hall (Monroe-Woodbury/Suffern, NY) and Claudell Martin (Thomas Jefferson, NY). On the track, Bullis sophomore Kennedy Brown ran the nation's top time so far in the girls 300 meters with 38.14 seconds and senior Alexander Lambert came from behind to win the boys 500 meters in a US#2 time of 1:04.27. Colin Abrams split 1:52 to lift Bullis to a US#2 time of 8:02.51 in the 4x800. And Mickey Green won the invitational 300 in 34.59 seconds after winning the 200 in 22.31. The Bullis girls also ran a US#1 time of 9:21.89 in the 4x800 relay. Union Catholic NJ's Taylor Aska took over national lead in the girls 300 meters with her time of 37.79 seconds and teammate Taylor Cox matched her own US#1 in the 55-meter hurdles with a meet record 7.76 seconds. Timber Creek NJ's Ryan Jennings ran to a national leading time in the girls 200 meters with 24.09 seconds, edging out Bullis' Kassidy Hopkins, who was next in US#2 24.35. Luke Cushing from Amity CT won the boys invitational mile in US#2 4:20.52 after a modest 67-second first 400 meters.
Andy Condon of John Jay Cross River NY closed out the invitational section of the day with a national leader 9:29.55 to win the 2-mile.
Justice McDaniel from McNamara MD won the girls invitational 500 meters in US#6 1:15.88.
Blair Bartlett from Lawrenceville NJ ran a U.S.-leading time of 9:32.29 to win the 3,000 meters over Sophia McInnes of Bayport Blue Point, who was second in 9:37.01.
PTerrance Mahomes of West Orange NJ won the boys 55-meter dash in 6.48 seconds.
