Foot Locker Champ Tamrat Gavenas Opens Indoor Campaign With 9:04 2-MilePublished by
Ryan Buskey Clears Bar at 7-1; Lisa Raye Blasts 6.91 55m By Keenan Gray of DyeStat Foot Locker champion Tamrat Gavenas began his indoor campaign with a 2-mile win at The Beantown Winter Classic at the Track at New Balance in Boston over the weekend.
Gavenas, who recently announced his commitment to Harvard after winning the Foot Locker boys title on Dec. 14, posted a 9 minute, 4.03 second effort to win the boys invitational section, winning by 34 seconds on the final day of the two-day meet.
Colonie Central NY’s Owen Conley managed to win two races in the boys varsity mile (4:20.44) and varsity section 2-mile (9:20.37)
Ryan Buskey earned another win in the high jump for Colonie Central, clearing 7 feet, 1 inch to win the boys competition. Buskey has already cleared a U.S. No. 1 mark of 7-2 this winter.
Zion Omotesa of St. John’s College DC posted a US#5 to win the boys 600-meter invitational section in 1:21.53.
Cymia Yourish of St. John’s College DC also ran a US#5 time of 1:35.21 to take the girls 600-meter invitational title.
Rancocas Valley Regional ran 1:29.16 to win the boys 4x200 relay, posting a US#5 mark.
Damilola Oyeniran, representing The House DC, held off Quentin Braithwaite to win the boys 55 club/unattached final in a US#2 time of 6.32
Lisa Raye of West Warwick RI easily won the girls 55 varsity final in a U.S No. 2 6.91, with sister Xenia Raye finishing second in 7.09.
Andrew Thornton-Sherman of St. Johnsbury Academy VT out sprinted Bennett Moreno by a thin margin in the boys 1000 run, posting a US#5 time of 2:29.75.
Charlotte O’Meara, a member of Bethlehem Central NY fifth-place Nike Cross Nationals team, took the girls 1,000 final in US#6 time of. 2:53.60.
