Benard Keter returned to the city where he starred in college and won the men's senior 10-kilometer race at the USATF Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Chaparral Ridge Cross Country Course in Lubbock, Texas.

Keter, who won four Big 12 titles when he competed for Texas Tech, ran a time of 29:42.91 and defeated Joseph Berriatua by nearly eight seconds.

The 32-year-old from the American Distance Project was a U.S. Olympian at the Tokyo Games in 2021.

Berriatua was second in 29:51.14.

The third and final runner under 30 minutes was Anthony Camerieri of Saucony, who ran 29:58.95.

Carrie Ellwood (formerly Verdon), 30, won the women's 10-kilometer race by 23 seconds in 34:22.

Cailie Logue of Minnesota Distance Elite finished second in the race in 34:45 and Katie Camarena of Saucony was third in 35:13.

Only 12 women were entered in the race.

Sam Scott, a University of Minneota freshman competing unattached, won the U20 men's 8-kilometer race in a time of 25:17. He had a 22-second advantage over second-place finisher Nolan Sutter, a Golden Gopher teammate.

Oregon freshman Jack Meier, also competing unattached, was third in 26:07.

New York prep standout Zariel Macchia, who finished third at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships last month in San Diego, won the U20 women's 6-kilometer race in 21:46.

Macchia became a three-time winner of the U20 race. The senior from William Floyd High is a BYU recruit.

Another Foot Locker finalist, Liliah Gordon from Shore Athletic Club (NJ), finished second in 21:57. The Northern Burlington County NJ senior ran a time of 21:57.

Caitlyn Osanai, another freshman who attends Minnesota, finished third in 21:59.
