Victor Olesen Earns Second Consecutive Pole Vault Title at AAU Indoor NationalsPublished by
Lauren Kosek, Eva Delaney Split The Distance Age 15-16 Distance Races By Keenan Gray of DyeStat Victor Olesen won a second consecutive national title in the boys pole vault on Saturday at the AAU Indoor National Championship at the Virginia Beach Sports Complex. The junior from Richmond, Va., representing Xtreme Height LLC, cleared three heights, including 16 feet, 8.75 inches to claim the overall win by nearly two feet. Olesen, who will now head to Nike Indoor Nationals in New York, attempted 17-3 but missed on all three attempts. Hunter Riffey and Ethan Sanchez of High Point Blaze finished first and second, respectively, in the boys 17-18 3,000 meters, with Riffey winning in 9:11.02. Michailyn Rose of Virginia Elite separated herself from Divinegift Oriakhi by an inch in the girls 17-18 triple jump, going US#9 40-7 for the win. Lauren Kosek of Northern Tier Flames, who finished second in the girls age 15-16 1,500 meters on Friday, equaled her head-to-head match-up with Eva Delaney, winning 15-16 3,000 meters in 10:17.77. Delaney won the 15-16 1,500 meters in 4:49.59. Delaney also finished second in the girls 15-16 800 meters by .23 seconds to Mary Katherine Parham of High Point Blaze, who won in 2:24.18. Emma Pham of Seven Locks Running Club ran 10:27.04 to win the girls age 12 division, setting a meet record by 11 seconds. Jayden Curry ran a seasons best time of 1:54.47, easily winning the boys 17-18 800 meters by more than four seconds. Brooke Sheppard of Harlem Children’s Zone won the girls 17-18 800 meters in 2:20.67. Steffon Lyon and Zayden Saxten of Southern Sprinters Elite Track lowered their own meet records in the boys 200 meter finals, with Lyon running 21.85 to win the 15-16 title and Saxten running 22.53 to win the 14 year old title. Kula Nembhard of Brampton Racers Track held off Elijah Burke of Above Xpectations in the boys 17-18 200 finals in 21.83, winning by a margin of .15 seconds. Eighth-grader Cayla Hawkins of Track Life University won the girls 15-16 200 final in 24.49. James Hawkins Jr. posted the fastest time of all the boys 60=meter hurdlers in the preliminary round, leading the 15-16 division in 8.45. Damira Allen of Chester Cheetahs Track Club posted a time of 8.83 to lead qualifying in the girls 17-18 division. Mekhi Prather of Southern Sprinters Elite Track club ran 6.94 in the boys 17-18 60 meter preliminary round to lead qualifiers. Laila Thomas led on the girls side, running 7.84. More news |
