The 2023 world champion began her 2025 season with a win in the women’s discus on Friday at the Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. Tausaga-Collins, who didn’t make the final at last summer’s Olympics Trials, threw 206 feet, 2 inches (62.85m) to win the women’s competition, posting the seventh-farthest throw in the world so far this early season. NCAA indoor champion Alexis Brown of Baylor jumped a wind-aided mark of 22-11.75 (+2.8w) to win the women’s long jump competition by over two feet. Reigning NCAA outdoor champion Marc Anthony Minichello from Georgia, now competing unattached, threw a personal best by a small margin in the men’s javelin, throwing 271-1 (82.63m). Auburn’s Dario Matau narrowly won the men’s 200 meters in 20.49 seconds, with North Carolina A&T’s Jordan Ware close in second in 20.51. Georgia’s Dejanea Oakley fought off Texas A&M’s Camryn Dickson in the women’s 200 meters, running 22.43. Texas A&M’s Ja’Qualon Scott ran 49.37 to claim the overall win in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. Georgia’s Michelle Smith won with ease in the women’s 400-meter hurdles in 54.56. Auburn’s Camila Gomes out kicked both Florida’s Tia Wilson and Illinois’ Halle Hill to win the women’s 1,500 meters in 4:13.72. Luciano Fiore, representing Atlanta Track Club, won the men’s 1,500 in 3:40.88. Madison Malone, former Auburn standout representing Velaasa, won the women’s hammer competition, throwing 226-6 (69.05m). Minnesota’s Kostas Zaltos and Angelos Mantzouranis finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s competition, with Zaltos throwing 255-7 (77.91m) and Mantzouranis throwing 254-0 (77.43m). Manuela Rotundo threw a first-round mark of 210-6 (64.17m) and Lianna Davidson threw a fifth-round mark of 204-3 (62.27m) to give Georgia a 1-2 finish in the women’s javelin. Minnesota’s Charles Godfred jumped a wind-aided mark to win the men’s long jump, hitting 26-2.75 (+2.3). Baylor’s Molly Haywood vaulted 14-7.25 (4.45m) to beat Illinois’ Tori Thomas in the women’s pole vault. Illinois’ Rose Yeboah cleared 6-3.25 (1.91m) to win the women’s high jump. Dana Wilson Posts Fifth Fastest Outdoor 200m Time In Prep History Dana Wilson of Greensboro Day NC joined the company of Allyson Felix, Shawnti Jackson, Candace Hill and Mia Brahe-Pedersen on the all-time high school girls top five list for 200 meters after winning the women’s Olympic development race. The Nike Indoor Nationals champion for the 60 and 200 meters races ran 22.45, moving to No. 5 on the all-time outdoor list, trailing just Hill and Brahe-Pedersen by hundredths of second for third and fourth in 22.43. Sydney Sutton of Bullis MD also ran an impressive 22.70 for second place. Quincy Wilson of Bullis MD began his outdoor campaign with a US#1 45.27 in the boys 400 meters for the win. Le’ezra Brown of Dudley NC ran a US#1 wind-aided 13.21 (+2.1) en route to winning the boys 110-meter hurdles. Kassidy Hopkins of Bullis MD ran 13.37 to hold off Alexia Reed of Dillard NC (13.41) in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Tyra Cox of Miami Northwestern FL ran a US#2 52.60 to win the girls 400 meters. Colin Abrams of Bullis MD won the boys 800 meters in 1:49.75. Christopher Bronaugh of Windermere FL ran 10.24 (+3.2) to claim the boys 100. Dasia Reed of Montverde Academy FL took the win in the girls 100 meters in 11.41. Jason Atwood of Lawton Chiles FL, US#1 in the discus, won with a throw of 209-8 in the boys competition. Nethan Vegar of Orange Park FL won the boys long jump competition by over six inches, jumping 25-0.75. Victoria Hill of Trinity Prep FL jumped 20-5 to win the girls long jump title. More news |
