Girls Recap: Timpview UT Senior Runs 9:34.12; Jasmine Robinson Lowers No. 2 All-Time Best In 300m Hurdles; Lisa Raye Wins 100/200; Rosary Girls Win 4x100 By Keenan Gray of DyeStat Ken Martinez Photos ARCADIA, Calif. – The legacy of Jane Hedengren grows stronger and stronger every time she laces up her spikes. First, Nike Cross Nationals. Next, Nike Indoor Nationals. On Saturday, the Arcadia Invitational. The Timpview UT star continued her record-breaking senior season with an all-time performance in the girls 2-mile, clocking 9 minutes, 34.12 seconds to headline another historic Arcadia Invitational. Hedengren shattered the previous national record of 9:41.76, set by Allie Zealand at last spring’s Brooks PR Invitational. Hedengren also ran faster than Mary Cain's indoor record of 9:38.68. “It was awesome,” Hedengren said. “You don’t know when you’ll get another chance to do this when you’re feeling healthy and strong. Just trying to soak in this moment and make the most of them.” Hedengren’s national record total for the 2024-25 school year is up to four following Saturday’s race. She ran the fastest cross country 5-kilometer time in 15:50 at NXR Southwest in November last fall, then ran 15:13.26 for 5,000 meters and 4:26.14 for the full mile at Nike Indoor Nationals. Hedengren ran the entire 2-mile effort solo, to no surprise, on a perfect night in Southern California. Through the first mile, she clicked off 70-71 second laps to open up in 4:46.47, building a 14-second lead on the rest of the field. In the latter half, Hedengren nearly ran an even mile split to finish off her run, clocking 4:47.65. Closing the final 100 meters, the entire stadium gave her a standing ovation. “It was really special,” Hedengren said. “When you come to these meets, usually as the race progresses in the last two laps, the crowd will get real loud. It was loud from the first 200 meters, so that was just incredible to have that support throughout.” Hedengren also clocked an en route 3,200 meter time of 9:30.68, dismantling Elizabeth Leachman's national record time of 9:43.74 from 2024. The race within Jane’s race was compelling, too. While no other girl broke the 10-minute barrier, the battle for the other top five spots was for anyone’s taking. Hanne Thomsen of Montgomery CA led the chase group for the entire race, holding on for second in 10:01.72 just ahead of Claire Stegall of Nolensville TN in third in 10:01.82. Keeghan Edwards of Mountain Vista CO ran 10:05.20 to take fourth, out kicking Sundara Weber of Sandwich IL in 10:05.58 in fifth. Jasmine Robinson of North Cobb GA became the second girl in meet history to run under 40 seconds in the girls 300-meter hurdles, winning the invitational section in 39.81 to improve her No. 2 all-time prep performance. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran her national record 38.90 at the 2017 Arcadia Invitational. Morgan Herbst of Carlsbad CA finished second in 40.26, moving her to No. 4 on the Arcadia Invitational list. Anisa Bowen-Fontenot of San Diego held off Robinson in the girls 100-meter hurdles in a US#1 13.16 to 13.22. Olivia Cieslak of Haverford Township PA used a final surge in last 100 meters of the girls mile to win in 4:41.46. Chiara Dailey of La Jolla CA finished second in 4:41.92 and Libby Castelli of O’Gorman ran 4:42.21 for third, breaking the South Dakota state record. Lisa Raye of West Warwick RI completed the girls 100/200 meter sweep, running 11.30 to win the 100 and 23.30 to win the 200. Makenna Herbst of Carlsbad CA ran 2:05.08 in the girls 800 meter to beat Boh Ritchie, the New Zealand senior champion, in 2:06.32 for second. Gabrielle Taylor of Highland AZ won the girls 400 meter in 53.80, beating Madison Mosby of St. Mary’s Academy CA in second in 53.93. Jaslene Massey of Aliso Niguel CA threw a sixth-round throw of 48 feet, 9.50 inches to claim the girls shot put title. Aja Johnson of Notre Dame CA, who finished second in the shot put to Massey, won the girls discus with a throw of 159-1, beating Massey by less than two feet. Loren Webster of Wilson (Long Beach) CA won the girls long jump competition by 4.50 inches, jumping 19-10. Kaeli Powe of Cherokee Trail of CO was the only girl in the triple jump competition to surpass 40 feet, jumping 41-6.25 for the win. Paige Echsner of Del Norte CA cleared 12-11 to take the girls pole vault title. Lelani Laurelle of Monta Vista CA eclipsed 5-8 to earn the win in the girls high jump. Rosary CA, who won the girls 800 meter sprint medley relay on Friday night, added a 4x100 relay win in 45.47. Wilson (Long Beach) CA clocked 3:42.08 to win the girls 4x400 relay over Carlsbad CA, who finished in 3:46.95 for second. Palo Alto CA won the girls distance medley relay in 11:48.54. More news |
