Pursuit Of NCAA Qualifying Continues This Weekend In Corvallis; Oregon and Washington Sending Athletes By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Lily Dozier photo Oregon State and other Northwest schools will try to bolster NCAA qualifying berths this weekend when its hosts the OSU High Performance Meet on Friday and Saturay at the Whye Track and Field Center. WATCH THE OSU HIGH PERFORMANCE MEET FRIDAY AND SATURDAY ON RUNNERSPACE+ The four runners who won the Beavers' first ever Drake Relays title, in the 4xMile, will all be entered in the 1,500 meters, which is shaping up to be the most competitive distance race on the slate. Ainsley Herron, Abigail Pradere, Maya Baechler and Ruby Broadbent are all on the entry list. All four are on OSU's all-time top 10 list in the event. They'll face competition from NCAA indoor mile qualifier Portland standout Laura Pellicoro, Washington's Julia David-Smith, Holly MacGillivray of British Columbia and Ellie Rising of George Fox, a Division 3 All-American. The meet will also feature members of the Corvallis-based pro group, Pacific Athletics, coached by OSU's Louie Quintana. Rylee Penn, Lauren Freeland, Maddie Mooney, Anna Connor, Grace Fethersonthaugh and Nick Russell are post-collegians who are part of the new group. Oregon's Simeon Birnbaum, getting back up to speed after an injury, is entered in both the 1,500 and 800 meters and could see action in either. The 1,500 lineup also includes Washington's Leo Daschbach and Jonathan Carmin of Portland. The men's 800 has sub-1:50 talent with Idaho's Zac Bright, Clayton VanDyke, Will Heslam and Ben Greene of Oregon and Alex Jensen and Seku Sanders from Seattle University. In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Washington's Isaac Briggs and Portland's Giuliano Scasso are the top entries. Washington freshman Nathan Neil is entered in the men's 5,000 meters along with Portland's Bradley Peloquin and Carmin and Russell. Oregon freshman Diana Cherotich is on the entry list in the women's 5,000 meters. Gonzaga's Jade Rypkema and Washingotn's Josephine Welin are also entered. Idaho's Katja Pattis and Jessica Frydenlund are the top entries in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Fetherstonhaugh is listed in the women's 10,000 meters, along with Oregon State's Molly Latincsics and Delaney Griffin. More news |
