Cougars Come Away With 20 Event Wins To Gear Up For NCAA West Regionals Story and photos By Keenan Gray of DyeStat CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Washington State men's and women's track and field teams concluded their regular season with an overwhelming performance at the first Pac-12 Open, collecting 20 event wins on Saturday at the Whyte Track and Field Center at Oregon State University. Mason Lawyer, an NCAA indoor qualifier this past winter, posted the 14th-fastest 200 meters time in the NCAA this season, regardless of wind-reading, winning the men's race in 20.48 seconds to highlight the Cougar's productive day. Lawyer also ran the second leg of the Cougar's winning 4x100 relay team, featuring Bryson Stubblefield, Grant Buckmiller and Keenan Kuntz, who collectively ran 39.59. Stubblefield won the men's 100 in 10.24 (+3.1), moving to No. 34 in the NCAA. John Paredes moved up on the NCAA list in the men's 110 hurdles to No. 41, running a season-best time of 13.69. Evans Kurui ran away with the men's 1,500 in 3:43.39, then paced teammate Josphat Meli to help him win the men's 5,000 in 14:32.77. The women's team won three of the four distance races: Rosemary Longisa in the 800 (2:05.63); Caroline Jepkorir in the steeplechase (10:39.15); and Zenah Cheptoo in the 5,000 (16:08.55). Brooke Lyons took a four-second win in the women's 400 in a seasons-best time of 54.98 after guiding the Cougar's 4x100 relay team to win in 45.34. Zakiya Hall, Ashley Hollenback Willems and Zoe Ray were on the relay, too. Eysias Banks ran 53.66 in the men's 400 hurdles, winning by over two seconds. Laura Lindquist won the women's javelin with a throw of 51.21 meters (168-00), bumping her to 32nd in the NCAA. Tatum Moku went over 4.44m (14-6.75) to claim the women's pole vault title. Gavin Dimick won the men's competition at 4.71m (15-5.50). AJ McGloflin cleared a season best 2.13m (6-11.75) to move inside the NCAA West Regional qualifying list, which takes the top 48 athletes in each individual event. Eli Lawrence began finals in the men's triple jump with a winning mark of 15.29m (50-2) Maxwell Moore used a third-round throw of 53.69m (176-1) to prevail in the men's discus. Mason Andulajevic threw within the 200-foot line in the men's hammer, winning with a mark of 59.85m (196-4). Blake Sturgis won his third consecutive discus competition over the last three weeks, throwing 66.39m (217-9). Kai Twaddle-Dunham won his first shot put competition of the season with a mark of 16.15m (53-00). Oregon State collected eight event wins, highlighted by Delaney Bahn in the women's long jump setting a program best of 6.19m (20-3.75), moving her to No. 45 in the NCAA West Regional. Jada Hurley ran a personal best 11.72 in the women's 100 and a wind-aided 24.08 in the 200 to complete the sweep in her final meet as a collegiate athlete. Jillian Brown ran a personal best 4:20.36 to win the women's 1,500 while leading five other Oregon State women to finish in the top 10. Markayla Billings threw a seasons best 55.81m (183-1) during the sixth round of the women's hammer to win by over seven meters. |
