Hawaii State Meet Recap 2025Published by
Hawaii Record-Breakers Violet Schaut (Konawaena) and James Millare (Moanalua) Lead Teams To State Titles By Mary Albl of DyeStat It was an historic two-days at the Island Movers/HHSAA State Track and Field Championships, held May 9 and 10, as two new names were etched into Hawaii state history. Led by junior sprinter Violet Schaut, the Konawaena girls totaled 51 points for its first state title. Runner-up was Kamehameha Kapalama with 43 points. The state title is the first championship for a Big Island school since Hawaii Prep won it in 2016. Schaut won the 100 (12.22), placed second in the 200 (25.97), third in the 400 (57.97) and was part of the winning 4x100 relay that set a facility record in a time of 48.88. Schaut earlier broke all-time Hawaii records in the 100 and 200. Destiny Look of Mid Pacific claimed the 100 hurdles in a facility record of 14.31 and won the 300 hurdles in 42.55, a meet and facility record. In the field, Look won the long jump with a maker of 18-1.50, another facility record. Moanalua freshman Sadie Krueger impressed in the distance events, claiming the 800 meters in an all-time state best 2:12.21 and the 1,500 in 4:32.89, both meet and facility records. On the boys side, Moanalua scored 102 points to win the program’s first state title. Runner-up was Baldwin with 53.50 points. Moanalua was led by junior James Millare, who won the 800 (1:53.83), 1,500 (3:53.16) and 3,000 (8:58.38), all three were facility records. His 1,500 winning time was also a meet record. Millare broke the Hawaii record in the 1,500 and mile at Arcadia in April. In the field, Kamehameha Maui senior Nahi Casco made history when he cleared 15-4 to win the boys pole vault and break the state meet record from 1997 of 15-3.
