Shadow Ridge's Justin Rawe Wins Four Golds In Class 5A Distance Events By John Dixon for DyeStat Nevada split its state hampionship between two locations. The 1-2-3A Championships were held at Moapa Valley High School and the 4-5A was at Desert Oasis. The Nevada 4A Meet is comprised only of Southern Nevada schools, while the 5A Meet is comprised of Northern and Southern Nevada schools. The weather didn’t cooperate. The temperatures were good, mid 80’s, but the winds were high, 15-30mph with gusts over 40 miles per hour. Class 5A Justin Rawe of Shadow Ridge came away with four gold medals as he won the 800 (1:52.83), 1,600 (4:17.13), 3,200 (9:31.04) and anchored the Nevada's top-ranked 4x800 (7:49.78) with a 1:53.50 split. Reno’s J.T. Thompson won the 100 (10.47 -1.2 wind) and 200 (21.32 -2.5). Legacy’s Sylus West-Gaither won the 400 (48.80), anchored the winning 4x400 (3:16.44) and placed fourth in the 200 (22.14 -2.5). Bishop Manugue’s Ethan Schmelzer won the shot put (60-1.50) and placed second in the discus (147-2). Jaden Riley, Liberty, won the long jump (23-11.00 +5.9) and triple jump (45-10.75). Brock Bryant of Bishop Manogue solidified his state-leading pole vault ranking with his win at 15-6. Legacy’s Amaya Stepp won the 200 (25.00 -3.9) and 400 (55.19) and placed fifth in the 100 (12.24 -0.6). Galena’s Eleanor Raker won the 1,600 (4:53.03), 3,200 (10:30.78) and placed third in the 800 (2:16.57). Palo Verde’s Berklie Ahlander won both Hurdles (14.23/44.47) and placed third in the triple jump (38-9 1.6) and fourth in the long jump (17-8 -3.4). Liberty’s Chayanne Gordon won the shot put (42-4.75) and discus (126-2). Reno sophomore MacKenzie Sellers defended her 2024 state title by winning the pole aault (13-0). Centennial’s Synai Davis won the long jump (18-11.75), and placed second in the triple jump 39-5.25 (+4.0) and 100 (12.10). Teammate Amara Young won the 100 (12.10) by .005. Class 4A Andres Pollard of Clark won the 100 (10.85 -2.8), 200 (21.99 -3.7) and 400 (48.50). Kenan Dagge from Desert Oasis won the 800 (1:54.92), 1,600 (4:14.57) and broke the meet record in the 3,200 with 9:03.84. Dagge also split 1:51 on his 4x800 relay anchor leg to bring his team to a second place finish. Noah Lara of Desert Oasis won the 110 Hurdles (12.23 -3.9) and 300 Hurdles in 37.85. Desert Oasis also won the 4x100 (41.98) and 4x200 (1:27.23). Somerset Sky Pointe won the 4x800 (7:51.37) and had outstanding performances from Carter Prater, who was second in the 1,600 (4:19.81) and the 3,200 (9:20.83). Anaiyah Ross from Sierra Vista won the 100 (12.20 -3.2) and 200 (24.65 -2.4). Nayla Piper of Arbor View won the 400 (57.96) and placed second in 100 (12.24) and 200 (24.68). Lacy Tippetts of Somerset Sky Pointe won the 1,600 (5:18.94) and 3,200 (11:46.29). Derriah Wren of Mojave swept the hurdles events (15.49/45.37) and placed third in 200 (25.03) and fourth in 100 (12.65). Arbor View won the 4x100 (47.98), 4x200 (1:41.06) and 4x800 (9:47.15). Miracle Siaosi of Cimarron-Memorial won the shot put (36-6.25) and discus (108-6). Class 3A Mordechai Yadegar from Moapa Valley won the 800 (1:59.08), 1,600 (4:20.16), 3,200 (9:53.57) and ran on the winning 4x400 (3:31.43). Jaelen Speaks of Valley won the 200 (23.38 -4.8) and long jump (22-6.50). Brent Kenison of Lowry won the high jump (6-6) and triple jump (46-11.50). Kayden Hulet of Sparks solidified his state lead in the discus winning at 180-2. Rhys Evans of Dayton won the pole vault with his clearance at 15 feet. Alana Wilson of SLAM Academy won the 100 meters (12.54) and 400 (57.07) and took second in the 200 (26.51). Taylor Dickey of North Valleys won the 800 (2:24.55) and 1,600 (5:23.99). Audrey Fiso from Virgin Valley won both the shot put (38-10.25) and discus (110-11). Sancha Jenas-Keough of Boulder City won the 200 (26.13 -5.7) and high jump (5-2) and placed second in 100 (12.63). Class 2A Andrew Pascua from Lake Mead Christian won the 100 (11.45) and 200 (23.73 -3.3). Max Avril of North Tahoe won the 1,600 (4:30.04) and 3,200 10:11.10). Judah Withey of Green Valley Christian dominated the throws, winning the shot put (55-4.50) and discus (167-10). Freshman Shelby Erikson of Incline won the 800 (2:19.82) and 1,600 (5:31.49). Ellie Bleak led the Lincoln County girls to the team title with her win in the triple jump (35-10), second place finishes in the pole vault (8-6) and long jump (15-4.75) and fourth in high jump (4-8). Class 1A Gabriel Knight of Word of Life won the 100 (11.70) and 200 (24.53). Logan Robinson of Whittell won the 800 (2:07.45), 1,600 (4:47.42) and 3,200 (11:10.42). Wells won the 4x100 (58.12), 4x400 (4:45.57) and 4x800 (12:16.82). Lailoni Tobey from McDermitt won the shot put (30-5) and discus (107-1).
