By Mary Albl of DyeStat

It seems fitting that Madi Todorovich’s final Montana State High School Track and Field State Championship took place at Legends Stadium.

In her final prep meet, the Helena High senior made sure she left her name in the records books as one of the greatest track athletes in state history. The Baylor commit won four gold medals, which pushed her total medals in her prep career to an amazing 27 won at a state track meet, breaking the previous state record of 24.

She set a new Class AA girls record for points scored as she tallied 50.50 of her team’s 83 points en route to the Class AA state runner-up. Gallatin won the team title with 100 points.

Todorovich won the 400 meters (57.22), high jump (5-6), long jump (18-6), triple jump (36-8.50) and was second in the 300 hurdles (44.66).

In the distance events, Gallatin senior Isabel Ross won the 800 (2:09.98) and 1,600 (4:53.60) as she helped her team claim their program’s first state title.

Alivia Rinehart of Flathead also had a big day on the track as she set an all-class record in the 100 hurdles (14.06), claimed the 300 hurdles (42.07), and ran a new Class AA meet record in the 200 of 24.54.

In the throws, Billings Skyview senior Rae Smart swept the throws winning the shot put (42-10), discus (127-5) and javelin (162-11), which was an all-class record.

Flathead junior William Hollensteiner who won the 200 (21.94), 400 (47.22), 300 hurdles (37.94) and finished second in the triple jump (46-10.25) and fifth in the long jump, led his team to a Class AA title with 88 points. Hollensteiner was also the anchor on the winning 4x400 (3:19.76) that propelled Flathead to the team victory - the first since 2015.

On the track, Belgrade junior Wilson Schmidt won the 800 in an all-class meet record time of 1:50.21 and claimed the 1,600 (4:12.60).

On the track, Custer County’s Peyton Frame set a state record in the 800 running 2:12.35 and also won the 1,600 (5:02.45).

The Corvallis boys needed every point to pull off the three-peat as they put up 76 points to edge out Frenchtown (75 points). Hunter Loesch, the nation’s No 1 javelin thrower (219-11), didn’t throw a PR, but secured the javelin title for Corvallis with a throw of 209-4.
