Newbury Park CA senior Nico Young, the reigning Nike Cross Nationals champion, discusses being selected as Gatorade National Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year. Young, a Northern Arizona signee, became the first student-athlete in school history to be recognized by Gatorade in any sport. Young followed Larkspur Redwood CA graduate and 2018 NXN champion Liam Anderson in receiving the award, in addition to joining 2009 winner Jordan Hasay of Mission Prep and 2013 recipient Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley among the California cross country runners to be honored nationally by Gatorade since 2008.
