Under Armour professional Morgan McDonald, the newest member of the training group in Colorado coached by Joe Bosshard, discusses his debut with the team June 27 at the Team Boss Colorado Mile at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction. Not only will it be the first race of the year for McDonald, who represented Australia in the 5,000 meters at the World Outdoor Championships in Doha, Qatar, but it will also mark the first altitude race of his career, with the event being held at 4,583 feet elevation. McDonald reflects on training during the past month since joining the group at both 8,909 feet elevation in Crested Butte, as well as 7,700 feet in Grand Junction. He also revisits running 3:54.63 to win the HOKA ONE ONE Long Island Mile in September and how his fitness compares nine months later. McDonald also shares the work done behind the scenes by fellow Under Armour professional Aisha Praught-Leer and Bosshard to connect with the Sachs Foundation, a 100-year-old not-for-profit group in Colorado, which provides scholarships for Black and African-American high school students in Colorado who wish to attend college. As a result, Praught-Leer has created a PledgeIt page (https://bit.ly/3fZg14N) with the team goal for the Team Boss Colorado Mile to raise $20,000 for the Sachs Foundation. McDonald examines the goals of male team members Nick Harris, Tripp Hurt and himself, along with Niwot High graduate and University of Washington signee Cruz Culpepper to break the Colorado soil record of 4:01 in the mile achieved this year by former Buffaloes All-American Joe Klecker. The goal for the female team members is to eclipse the 4:36.05 standard produced in 2018 by another former Colorado All-American and Team Boss athlete Dani Jones.
