Bowerman Track Club standout Elise Cranny, a 12-time All-American at Stanford, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her world-leading 14:48.02 in the 5,000 meters that she ran June 30 at Jesuit High in Portland, Ore., as part of a mini-meet organized by coach Jerry Schumacher for his training group. Cranny reflects on the altitude training that took place in Park City, Utah, before the meet, as well as her rehabilitation and recovery from injury that kept her sidelined during the indoor season. She revisits her last races Sept. 9 and 10, competing in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters at The Match in Belarus, as well as her last 5,000 on Sept. 1 in Berlin. Cranny, who elevated to the No. 7 all-time 5,000 performer in the U.S., speaks about the depth of the Bowerman women's roster, which is responsible for seven of the top 11 all-time American athletes in the event, including Courtney Frerichs, who finished second in the race in 14:50.06 to elevate to No. 9 in U.S. history. She also looks back at her 3,000 race at the 2015 NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships, when she ran the American U-20 indoor record at 8:58.88 to place second behind Arkansas senior standout Dominique Scott, and compares her achievement to running a 36-second PR in the 5,000. Cranny shares details about the upcoming Virtual Summer Running Camp organized by Bowerman Track Club, which runs from July 13 to August 9. She also talks about her participation in the One Million Miles for Justice campaign, which runs through July 15, with all proceeds going to the NAACP. Cranny concludes by examining the prospects of a veteran Stanford women's lineup winning the Division 1 Cross Country Championships in November in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
