Lake Oswego OR sophomore Kate Peters ran a time trial with members of her team on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Cook Park in Tigard and clocked an impressive time of 16:23 for 5,000 meters. Since then, a moratorium has been put in place on contact between athletes and coaches in her school district. Oregon will not conduct official high school sports this fall but is planning to have a cross country season next spring. Peters placed ninth at Nike Cross Nationals last year as a freshman and is the fourth-highest placing returner in 2020. She is coached by Steve Edwards, the husband of Shalane Flanagan.
