Jessica Hull, a Nike athlete coached by Pete Julian and holder of four Australian records, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal during a two-week quarantine after the former Oregon standout returned to her home country following a memorable European tour that saw her compete in five countries overall and set outdoor national all-time marks in the 1,500, 3,000 and 5,000 meters. Hull shares how her parents brought a spin bike to her hotel, so she has access to that in her room. She also reveals that when her quarantine is complete Oct. 21, she will have an opportunity to see her brother, both her parents and fiance' Daniel all in the same night, then celebrate her 24th birthday the following day. Hull reflects on becoming the only Australian female athlete in history to hold all three outdoor records during her career, clocking 14:43.80 in the 5,000 in Monaco, followed by 4:00.42 in the 1,500 in Berlin and then running 8:36.03 in the 3,000 in Doha to complete the trifecta, all during a 43-day span. She also revisits wrapping up the European schedule by competing in her first 5-kilometer road race, held on a speedway in Wigan, England. Hull expresses gratitude for Julian and his training schedule, allowing Hull to build confidence in her preparation throughout the spring and early summer, despite not practicing with the rest of the group in Oregon. She also speaks about her relationship with teammate Shannon Rowbury and how much she benefited from her veteran presence, both during training and races, once the group reunited in Europe. Hull talks about the significant roles that Stephen Haas and Michelle Sammet played in making sure she could travel from one country to another, in addition to always having a place to stay, even after the rest of the group left to return to the United States. She reminisces about the exceptional consistency of British standout Laura Weightman and Kenya's Faith Kipyegon, along with the world records achieved by Ethiopia's Letesenbet Gidey and Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei, and how their success has provided more inspiration for Hull entering 2021 and her Olympic debut in Tokyo. She also emphasizes the desire to race at the Prefontaine Classic next year at the new Hayward Field.
