Brigham Young senior All-Americans Anna Camp-Bennett and Whittni Orton, who were among six Cougar athletes placing in the top 10 in the team's victory Oct. 17 at the Oklahoma State Invitational in Stillwater, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss racing against competition from other schools for the first time in eight months and how meaningful it was for BYU to participate in what is likely the program's only cross country event in 2020. Camp-Bennett reflects on how much work took place behind the scenes by BYU women's coach Diljeet Taylor, men's coach Ed Eyestone, the Cougars' athletic department and the West Coast Conference to allow the team to gain clearance to participate in the event.

Orton revisits her competition early in the race with Oklahoma State's Taylor Roe and how she pulled away in the final kilometer to earn the individual victory in the 6-kilometer race in 20:27.8. They both offer praise for how well BYU's underclassmen performed, including three true freshmen placing in the top 16 in their collegiate debuts. Camp-Bennett shares how quickly the chemistry has formed with this year's team and the motivation of the Cougars to achieve another podium finish after placing second at last year's NCAA Division 1 Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.

Orton examines how important it is for BYU to maintain consistent training habits and remain healthy in order to help its momentum carry over to the team's next competition. They both revisit participating in a record-setting basketball mile event Sept. 4 in Provo, with Orton clocking a world all-time best 4:58.56 and Camp-Bennett producing a mark of 5:10.37 at 4,550 feet elevation, times that would be converted to 4:52.71 and 5:04.28 with the altitude adjustment. They also share fond memories from their high school basketball careers, including Orton being part of three consecutive state titles at Panguitch, and Camp-Bennett reminiscing about playing soccer and basketball at Millard.

They both express gratitude for being among 11 female athletes in Utah prep history to win at least three state cross country titles, with Orton capturing four in a row in 1A from 2012-15 and Camp-Bennett securing three straight in 2A from 2013-15.
