Marissa Thompson, a senior at Vanguard University, won the women's 5-kilometer title Saturday at the Golden State Athletic Conference Championships at the William Jessup University course in Rocklin, Calif. Thompson, who placed fourth as a freshman and a sophomore, before taking second last season, clocked 18:46.9 to help the Lions finish third as a team overall with 71 points. Thompson became the third Vanguard female athlete to win a conference individual crown, joining Sherri Hall in 1988 and 1990, along with Grace Jepngetich in 2006.
