Junior Cecelia Fetterolf, senior Ricky Fetterolf and sophomore Scarlet Fetterolf, sisters and members of the Loudoun Valley High girls cross country team that is scheduled to participate Nov. 15 as The Jungle TC in the championship race at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the opportunity to compete at the event presented by The Garrett Companies at the LaVern Gibson course in Terre Haute, Ind. The trio shares their gratitude for being able to race in another national-level meet after placing 10th last season in their debut at Nike Cross Nationals. They reflect on the strong performances by both the Northern Virginia Athletic Club lineups Oct. 17 at the VA Elite Invitational, with Loudoun Valley placing first and fourth in the girls seeded race at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. Ricky Fetterolf revisits the rise of Loudoun Valley during her career, including a pair of 4A state championship and an NXR Southeast regional title, and the opportunity to renew acquaintances with five other NXN finalists from last year, by competing Sunday against Naperville North from Illinois, Valor Christian from Colorado, Edina from Minnesota, as well as California programs Great Oak, racing as South Temecula, and Newbury Park. Cecelia and Scarlet reveal how significant the opportunity will be for all three sisters to race together in a national competition, in addition to how emotional it has been sharing the journey with Ricky during her final high school cross country season. The sisters analyze how meaningful it will be for Loudoun Valley to race at the prestigious LaVern Gibson venue, and how Loudoun Valley coaches Joan Hunter and Marc Hunter have continued to create competitive opportunities this fall for the program, despite the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic. Ricky examines the prospects Sunday for The Jungle TC lineup, which also includes Ava Gordon, Ally Talley, Maddie Smith and Katherine Slovak, and their ambitions to finish in the top five, with the ultimate goal of placing in the top three.
