Stanford commit Audrey DaDamio, a senior at Birmingham Seaholm High and the reigning Michigan Division 1 state cross country champion, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her 4:53.13 and 10:13.57 double in the indoor mile and 2-mile races Jan. 16-17 at The Virginia Showcase in Virginia Beach, which followed top-five finishes at the RunningLane Cross Country National Championships in November in Alabama and the AAU Cross Country National Championships in December in Florida. DaDamio now ranks as the No. 3 performer in Michigan indoor track history in the 2-mile and No. 5 all-time in the mile, based on races contested on a standard banked 200-meter track. She reflects on not only her performances, but the efforts of Arkansas signee Sydney Thorvaldson, a senior at Rawlins High in Wyoming, along with North Carolina commit Brynn Brown of Denton Guyer High in Texas, who ran the Nos. 2 and 3 times in prep 2-mile history at 9:47.95 and 9:51.00. She also revisits her mile race, with Thorvaldson clocking 4:43.90 and North Carolina State signee Brooke Rauber of Tully Senior in New York clocking 4:49.06, and how she is inspired to run faster than older sister Rachel DaDamio, who clocked 4:49.66 in the mile at the 2015 New Balance Indoor Nationals. Audrey DaDamio also shares her motivation for eclipsing the state 2-mile record on a banked 200-meter track of 10:10.14 set in 2010 by Megan Goethals of Rochester High. She also expresses her appreciation and inspiration for the 800-meter performances of Juliette Whittaker of Mount de Sales High in Maryland, Roisin Willis of Stevens Point High in Wisconsin and Sophia Gorriaran of Moses Brown High in Rhode Island, as well as their contributions, along with Bailey Goggans of Marble Falls High in Texas, in setting the World U-20 record in the 4x800 relay at the meet. DaDamio looks ahead to future indoor races at the Virginia Beach facility and the SPIRE Institute in Ohio, in addition to remaining hopeful there will be an indoor state meet in Michigan, with her goal to capture both mile and 2-mile titles.
