North Carolina A&T track and field head coach Duane Ross joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the Aggies making their debut April 22-24 at the 111th Drake Relays presented by Xtream at the Blue Oval at Jim Duncan Track in Des Moines, Iowa. Ross reveals that North Carolina A&T will also be simultaneously hosting its own Aggie Classic in Greensboro, N.C., and expresses gratitude for his support system and athletic department for being able to run the meet effectively in his absence. He reflects on previously visiting Jim Duncan Track for the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships, but shares his anticipation for being able to experience the festival atmosphere, including the unique food opportunities showcased at the event. Ross explains how meaningful it is to be representing Historically Black Colleges and Universities at the meet, and looks to end an 18-year drought since the last HBCU men's relay victory was achieved by Texas Southern, and before that Prairie View A&M in 1991 and Southern in 1981. He also analyzes the Aggies' pursuit of the men's collegiate 4x400 relay record of 2:59 flat achieved in 2018 by USC, and the confidence gained from Daniel Stokes, Randolph Ross, Elijah Young and Trevor Stewart running 3:00.23 on March 27 at the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, in addition to capturing the NCAA Division 1 Indoor championship March 13 at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., the first men's indoor national title in any event in program history. Duane Ross examines the significance of being able to share his first Drake Relays experience with his daughter Jonah, a freshman, and son Randolph, a sophomore, and how meaningful the weekend will be to the entire family. He reminisces about the Aggies' fifth-place team finish at the Division 1 indoor final and their pursuit of a podium finish outdoors in June at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Ross also speaks about the improvement of North Carolina A&T's women's lineup and their enthusiasm for competing in the 4x100 shuttle hurdle relay in an effort to showcase the Aggies' depth in the event.
