Georgia sophomore All-American Jasmine Moore, a nine-time UIL state champion in Texas and six-time New Balance Nationals winner, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her lifetime-best 46-10 (14.27m) triple jump performance May 1 at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial Invitational in Athens, Ga., which elevated her to the No. 4 outdoor competitor in NCAA history. Moore, the 2019 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year, shares how significant it was to be able to accomplish the jump competing at home, especially in front of friends and family. She also explains how close her performance was to securing the Olympic standard of 46-11.75 (14.32m), which would join American outdoor and indoor record holders Keturah Orji and Tori Franklin as the leading candidates from the U.S. to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. Moore revisits another personal-best effort of 22-5 (6.83m) in the long jump in rainy conditions April 9 at the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, and examines her development and improvement in the event in her pursuit of being a more well-rounded competitor in both events. She reflects on earning All-America honors in both the long jump and triple jump March 12-13 at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., and the historic nature of both competitions, with three athletes surpassing the 14-meter mark in the triple jump for the first time at an indoor final, along with the top eight long jumpers all achieving 21-foot efforts. Moore analyzes the depth of the women's collegiate triple jump, with Ruth Usoro of Texas Tech, Deborah Acquah of Texas A&M, Ruta Lasmane of Florida State, Charisma Taylor of Washington State and herself all ranked among the top 30 all-time Division 1 indoor competitors, as well as the top 40 performers in NCAA outdoor history. She shares her respect for Usoro ascending to the No. 2 all-time collegiate indoor and outdoor triple jumper, and how they are both pursuing the records established by Orji during her career. Moore also speaks about the UIL State Championships returning May 6-8 to Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas, after they were canceled last year as a result of the pandemic.
