Sophomore twins Amanda Moll and Hana Moll of Capital High in Washington, who represent Northwest Pole Vault Club, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to reflect on being only the second set of sisters all-time in the high school pole vault to both clear at least 14 feet. Amanda has achieved the feat seven times, including five occasions outdoors, with Amanda reaching the mark for the first time May 29 at the Vaulter Club Vaulter Magazine Memorial Day Classic at the Big Red Barn facility in Sun City, Calif., then doing so again May 30 at the Chula Vista High Performance meet at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California. Amanda matched Hana by clearing 14-1.25 (4.30m) in a separate flight at Chula Vista to both share the sophomore class outdoor national record. Amanda then broke the record June 6 at the next Chula Vista High Performance meet at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center by clearing 14-7.25 (4.45m), which also set the age 16 all-time mark of 14-6 (4.42m) achieved last year at the Thousand Oaks Invitational by Paige Sommers of Westlake High in California. Amanda, also the freshman class outdoor national record holder at 14-3.75 (4.36m), revisits how she was able to equal the No. 5 all-time prep vaulter by borrowing an Altius 14-3/170 pole from Canadian Olympian Anicka Newell. Both sisters share how significant and meaningful it is to have four athletes in Northwest Pole Vault Club in the past three years who have set or equaled a class, age group or overall national record, including Chloe Cunliffe of West Seattle, who still holds the national indoor mark from 2019 at 14-9 (4.50m), a clearance recently equaled outdoors May 26 by Sommers at the Marmonte League final. Lianne Kistler of Ballard High in Washington held the sophomore class outdoor record at 14-1 (4.29m), before it was surpassed by Hana and Amanda, and then Amanda again. They also speak about the value of having Tim Reilly as a coach and how resourceful he has been during the pandemic to allow the vaulters to continue to train, Both sisters also look ahead to the NSAF Outdoor Nationals, presented by Nike, with the girls championship pole vault scheduled for July 1, including a potential showdown involving Sommers and Amanda Moll, among several 14-foot competitors.
