Sisters Bethany Hasz (Jerde) and Megan Hasz (Sailor), Big Ten champions and All-Americans at Minnesota, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss their recent decision to sign with adidas and Boston Athletic Association and to be represented as professional athletes by Hawi Keflezighi. The 24-year-old twins helped Minnesota capture the conference title and place seventh in November at the NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla., following a fifth-place performance in March 2021 at the Division 1 final in Stillwater, Okla. They express gratitude for the guidance given to them by Minnesota coach Sarah Hopkins, along with Under Armour professional athlete and Minnetonka High graduate Will Leer, in helping them transition from college running to the next chapter of their careers. The siblings share the interactions they've had with B.A.A. coach Mark Carroll and how impressed they've been with the success of Erika Kemp, Abbey Wheeler and Annie Rodenfels in representing the group. The sisters also speak about joining the group with fellow Big Ten champion and All-American Jenna Magness of Michigan State and what it has been like racing against the 23-year-old standout for the past five years. Megan reflects on her victory in October at the Big Ten cross country final and prevailing against Magness, as well as Bethany, and how significant that experience was after overcoming several struggles in the years prior to her last fall season with the Gophers. Bethany examines how meaningful it was to watch her sister capture the crown after she won the previous conference championship in January in Indiana, and explains how special it is for the family to celebrate both titles. They also revisit both earning All-America honors in November in Tallahassee, the last Division 1 final they would race at together, with Bethany advancing to the NCAA outdoor championship in June at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., and finishing 22nd in the 5,000 meters. The sisters analyze living in Boston after so many years in Minnesota, and training in the city, and look forward to applying what they have learned about exercise science and physical therapy to their professional careers.
