Katelyn Rupe from Salina Central in Kansas smashed the all-time course record for girls at the Rim Rock Farm course in Lawrence when she ran 17:13 to win the Class 5A race Oct. 29 at the Kansas state cross country championships. Rupe, a sophomore, is a dual sport athlete who also competes in tennis. Rupe won state titles in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters on the track last spring as a freshman and got even more serious about her running training over the summer. Rupe continues to work on both sports and competed for her school's tennis team this fall as well. Rupe is looking forward to competing outside of Kansas for the first time this weekend when she travels to the Nike Cross Heartland regional at Yankton Trail Park in Sioux Falls, S.D.
