Robin Kucler and Wren Kucler, sophomore twin sisters at North Allegheny High in Pennsylvania and members of the five-time Class AAA girls cross country state championship team, join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the Tigers preparing to compete Nov. 26 at NXR Northeast at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. North Allegheny hasn't competed as a full team at NXR Northeast since taking third overall in 2018 and is seeking its first berth to qualify to race Dec. 3 at Nike Cross Nationals at Glendoveer Golf Course in Oregon. The sisters, who were adopted by Rob and Deanna Kucler at 11 months old after being born in Jiangxi, China, already helped North Allegheny make history in the spring by each competing in fhe 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters, along with the 4x800-meter relay, to help the Tigers win the WPIAL District 7 girls track and field team title for the first time since 2005. They speak about how significant the leadership of North Allegheny coach John Neff has been in the success of the program, which has also been highlighted by the Tigers winning the past three Class AAA boys state cross country titles. The siblings also share how meaningful it has been to have senior Grace Rowley as part of the program this season and how much of an impact she has had on the North Allegheny lineup, joining the Kucler sisters, Eva Kynaston, Erin McGoey, Camille Swirsding and Kendall Lucas. The twins reflect on how meaningful the opportunities have been to compete at the Red, White and Blue Classic, PIAA Foundation Invitational and TSTCA Championship meet in Pennsylvania, along with the Boardman Spartan Invitational in Ohio, and how well they feel the competition and challenging courses have prepared the Tigers to race at Bowdoin Park. They also revisit how beneficial their youth running experiences were representing the Bullseye Running Team and Howard County Striders Running Club and how meaningful it was to capture an AAU national title in 2018. The Kucler sisters also examine how special it would be to become only the third Pennsylvania girls team to advance to Nike Cross Nationals, joining Pennsbury in 2012, 2013 and 2015, plus Unionville in 2013 and 2014, especially with such a young team.
