Charlotte Bell, a junior at Cuthbertson High in North Carolina, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the impressive start to her indoor track season and the Cavaliers competing Jan. 27-28 at the Mondo High School Elite Invitational at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Bell has produced North Carolina state indoor records in the 1,000 and 1,600 meters by clocking 2:49.32 and 4:47.84, respectively, on Dec. 10 at the Liberty Flames Invitational, along with contributing Jan. 14 to another all-time state mark of 8:57.98 in the 4x800 at the Virginia Showcase, teaming with Stella Kermes, Alyssa Preisano and Justine Preisano to produce a performance that ranks No. 7 in U.S. prep indoor history. Bell also reflects on her JDL Fast Track high school facility record Jan. 17 of 2:50.77 in the 1,000, which eclipsed a 2015 record established by Nevada Mareno of Leesville Road. She revisits the fall cross country season, highlighted by Cuthbertson winning a fifth consecutive state championship with its Class 4A victory, along with securing the NXR Southeast team title and placing eighth Dec. 3 at Nike Cross Nationals at Glendoveer Golf Course in Oregon. Bell examines the depth of Cuthbertson's group, with four athletes running 4:55 or faster in the 1,600 this indoor season and the Cavaliers looking to produce fast mile times at the Mondo High School Elite Invitational. She also analyzes the potential for Cuthbertson on March 10-12 at the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet in Boston, looking to challenge for both the 4x800 and 4xMile championships. Bell also reminisces about capturing the Nike Indoor Nationals 4x800 title last year in 8:59.85 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., and placing runner-up to Flower Mound High of Texas in the 4xMile final at New Balance Nationals Indoor at The Armory in New York by running 20:01.48. She speaks about her experience in April in the Championship of America 4x800 race at Penn Relays at Franklin Field, with Cuthbertson clocking 9:04.67 to be the top U.S. quartet and finish second overall behind Edwin Allen of Jamaica (8:54.58). Bell highlights the leadership of Cuthbertson cross country coach Kirk Walsh and track and field program head coach Dustin Allen, in addition to praising her teammates for continuing the legacy of state championships, as the Cavaliers have also won five consecutive indoor track and field crowns and back-to-back outdoor track and field titles. She also explains how meaningful it has been to share the experiences with the same nucleus of teammates, especially with Kermes and the Preisano sisters in the elite relay events.
