Clovis East High in California placed five athletes in the top 20 to secure its first Division 1 boys team title with a 58-86 victory against Buchanan at the Central Section Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Carter Spradling, a senior, covered the 5-kilometer layout in 15:20.45 to capture the first individual crown for Clovis East since Russel Plaff in 2005. Jordan Herrera (15:43.71) and Mark McAleenan (15:51.29) were ninth and 10th, with Owen Johnson (16:09.63) and Marcus Salinas (16:13.47) placing 18th and 20th for the Timberwolves, who rebounded from a 45-49 setback Nov. 9 against Buchanan at the Tri-River Athletic Conference Championships at Woodward Park. Isaak Camacho (17:11.18) and Jacob Gonzalez (17:16.07) finished 52nd and 54th for Clovis East, which advanced to race Nov. 25 at the CIF State Championships at Woodward Park.
