Ariadni Adamopoulou, a two-time Greek women's indoor pole vault champion and All-American at Oklahoma State, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing Aug. 5 in pole vault qualifying in her Olympic debut in Paris. Adamopoulou, 23, achieved a lifetime-best 14-9 (4.50m) clearance on three occasions during the outdoor season and qualified among the 32 athletes based on the World Athletics rankings quota, despite not securing the Olympic standard of 15-6.25 (4.73m). She will represent Greece along with 2016 Olympic gold medalist Katerina Stefanidi and Eleni-Klaoudia Polak, marking the third time in the country's history that three female pole vaulters will compete at the Olympics, including the first time the nation achieved the feat in back-to-back Summer Games, including 2021 in Tokyo. Adamopoulou shares how significant it is to wear the HELLAS national team kit for Greece in competition and she reflects on her first opportunity to have the honor in 2014 at a meet against Cyprus, and how meaningful it is to have the blessing of doing so again in Paris. She revisits the European Championships in Rome in June and just missing the cutoff to advance to the final, but Adamopoulou explains how much was learned when it came to managing emotions and energy in such a big meet and impressive venue. Adamopoulou expresses gratitude for Oklahoma State pole vault, throws and multi-events coach Josh Langley and his support throughout her career in Stillwater, as well as during her transition to competing professionally and explains how excited she is to receive two new poles from him courtesy of UCS Spirit ahead of vaulting in Paris. She also shares how impactful the energy and consistency from her family and support system have been, especially after moving back home to Greece following her Oklahoma State career and graduating with a degree in psychology. Adamopoulou speaks about how much growth and improvement she achieved during her time in Stillwater, and how she rebounded from injuries in order to enjoy the best outdoor season of her career this year. She discusses a trip to France for her first indoor meet of the year in January, and how much Adamopoulou is looking forward to experiencing the culture, fashion and style connected with the Olympics in Paris.
