Allie Wilson, a Nike professional athlete representing Heartland Track Club and the reigning U.S. indoor women's 800-meter champion along with being runner-up at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss making her Olympic debut Aug. 2 in Paris. Wilson, 28, clocked 1:58.32 in the Olympic Trials final June 24 at Hayward Field in Oregon to secure her spot on the U.S. national team, then produced a lifetime-best 1:57.52 effort July 20 at the London Diamond League event to elevate to No. 12 in American history. She revisits the race in London, which had 10 competitors running sub-1:59, including British competitors Keely Hodgkinson (1:54.61), Jemma Reekie (1:55.61) and Georgia Bell (1:56.28) taking the top three spots, and shares how meaningful it was to achieve a personal-best performance for the first time since clocking 1:58.09 in Switzerland in 2022, in addition to examining her room for even more improvement in Paris. Wilson explains about the challenges of having to reset emotionally after qualifying at the Olympic Trials and running 2:00.48 on July 12 at the Morton Games in Ireland, which added extra motivation for her final tuneup in London, before traveling to France. She also reflects on winning the U.S. indoor title in February in Albuquerque and qualifying for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March in Scotland, but Wilson shares the aspects of finalizing her professional contract with Nike and how all those events overlapped, which resulted in a chaotic schedule ahead of competing in Glasgow. Wilson expresses gratitude to Heartland Track Club coach Andrew Begley, along with mental coach Bianca Wilson and teammates Emma Grace Hurley and Gemma Finch, as well as family and friends for their support following her transition after several years training with Atlanta Track Club. She also speaks about being on the road since arriving June 4 in Portland, then traveling to Eugene for the Olympic Trials, before leaving for London following the U.S. championship meet, and eventually arriving in Paris. Wilson discussed the new Team USA racing kits for Paris, in addition to sharing her excitement for the Ralph Lauren gear that the American athletes will be receiving and how she is looking forward to participating in the opening ceremony.
